You can do something like a redi-rad to play music ect through a period correct AM(!) radio.

I see that the "integrated rear speaker fader" sticker is missing;
If I have decoded that tag correctly:
02FPBK2
0 = 1970
2 = Pontiac
F = Firebird
PB = AM radio
K = fader (rear speaker)
2 = (revision number)

My 1970 Delco Radio service manual is a September 1969 printing, which doesn't have the Firebird "K" radio listed - but the labels appear to follow a pattern.

So, are you going to install a perforated rear package tray? (and a rear speaker?)
IIRC these trays were used in all deluxe cars, and cars which had a factory installed rear speaker - there is no seperate rear speaker cover.

Negative. I actually just installed the non perforated tray today. It's only getting the single speaker in the dash.

I'll just be listening to music thru a Bluetooth speaker anyway.

That said, I'll put in the effort to get it working.

That is why I asked. When I thought my AM radio wasn't good, I sent out an AM/FM mono radio to be gone thru. Turned out to be the speaker. But, I didn't want to add the rear speaker either and skipped sending out a "red dot" unit. My AM/FM mono unit looks and works good.

While I'm waiting for parts to roll in, I've been chipping away at little things. Got the upper part of the cowl pretty much finished off. I only need to install the lower plastic windshield corner things that hide behind the fenders, but I figured I'd do that when the window trim goes on.

The new wiper arms fit pretty tight, but they're on. The cowl screen was also a pretty snug fit, but looks good.

The cowl seal required me opening up a few holes for the clips to fit. Unfortunately there's one spot on the cowl that doesn't have the hole for a clip, and it's in a spot I can't reach with a regular drill. So I need to grab a 90° drill or remove the hood, and I'm not removing the hood lol

All interior pieces painted. They look awesome, and are a spot on match to the Legendary seat covers and door panels. The Gardner exhaust also came in. I pulled a few tubes and the tips to look at, and seems like an extremely high quality system.

Eric from Gardner Exhaust is a pleasure to deal with, and their exhaust products are second to none. Factory spot on, the pipes literally fall into place. They required very little adjustment on my 71 TA. They aren’t inexpensive, but the fit and finish was perfect, and they are MADE IN USA!!!! IMHO the only way to go!!!!

I didn't apply any insulation on the panels themselves, just on the steel behind them. They're not in permanent yet, as I need to seal the panels around the vent openings.



A little story from yesterday:


I was going thru old paperwork that came with the car, and I found a parts receipt for some clutch parts from 1997. It had a name and phone number on it for the customer, but it wasn't the owners name. I decided to call the number and see what the deal was.

Turns out he was the individual who worked on the car for years, doing all sorts of mechanical work for the previous owner. We talked for a bit and turns out he knew the car quite well, and actually remembered working on it. He has a 69 Firebird that he's owned for a long time, and it came from the same dealership my 70 came from. Village Pontiac on Commonwealth Ave in Boston.

Small world. Both cars still live within 40 miles of where they we're sold new 55 years ago.

Got the new exhaust manifolds from Ames. They look great, and feel about the same weight as the originals. They arrived individually bagged and boxed, coated in oil. I cleaned them up and hit them with some Calyx manifold rub. I might have them coated down the road, but I've had good results with Calyx, so we'll see.

I have never heard of “Calyx manifold rub”, so I just looked it up;
Is it essentially a repurposed use for anti-seize compound?
(that is in no way meant to disparage the product)

I guess it is pretty similar to antiseize. The consistency is almost the same.

Calyx doesn't seem quite as crazy in nature as grey anti-seize.
A-S will follow you around for a week after using it on 2 bolts.

Find a little faint smear of it in all kids of unusual places around the house , the dogs collar , the mailbox ,,,,, how did it get on the doorbell - I don't even use the doorbell.

Starting to work on the window trim. I hit them with a few rounds of oven cleaner to strip the old anodized coating off them, straightened any damage, and wet sanded the pieces starting at 400 grit and worked up to 2000 grit.

Afterwards I hit them with some white and red polishing rouge on a bench top grinder that I put polishing wheels on.

First pic shows a piece stripped and wet sanded next to two pieces that haven't been touched. Second and third pic show a wet sanded piece against a polished piece. They're not the easiest things to take pictures of.
