In a previous thread there was talk about jam nuts and shifter balls [ https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=881173 ].
I had to get the assembly manual out the other day and while looking thru it, I noticed there was no ball knob listed. Was mine replaced by the other owners [OG (deceased) or brother] and I'm suppose to have the 3 speed version of the 4 speed knob, which would explain jam nut?

1973 F body manual with a 3 speed?
I would expect it to have this one if a 3 speed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/225404022990 Last edited by 65madgoat; 08-19-2025 at 07:18 PM. |

incase it needs to be said, the jam nut was only used with the simulated leather knobs;
The oversized black knobs (which I believe would be OEM for a 1973 3-speed) would NOT use a jam nut.

The fact that there was a jam nut is why my thinking is it had the simulated leather knob.
Here is the black ball I pulled off...
