I am looking at putting catalytic convertors on the 79 TA to make it easier to sell in CO. The TA currently has no cats so was looking at ebay cats that run about 50 each, I have dual exhaust. Any smoggers out there bought these and passed emissions test with cheapo cats. I know the emissions standards are lower for older vehicles compared to newer vehicles.

Interesting. So CO has full inspection for that stuff?
I used to have to worry about that until AZ got the collector car exemption. From 1999 until 2007 I drove a 73 Formula and had to smog it, but only once did they quibble over whether all the factory smog equipment was attached. I know I'm not adding much substance to your thread, but found it interesting.

I didn’t think any state made older cars do that’s. That’s insane.

Yeah it is kind of dumb it should be a moving scale but if your vehicle is 1975 or earlier then they are exempt. There are some counties here in CO who do not need emissions test to drive on their streets. CO is not a stickler on all emissions equipment has to be present, as long as you can pass the sniffer test. I guess the only good thing about people stealing catalytic convertors is it gives a person a good reason to put on a better flowing cat. I bought 2 cats from ebay for 70 and will be putting on soon and then off to emissions station. Hopefully it passes if not I can still sell to someone who does not need emissions test.

Well I took car in this weekend and it passed CO emissions with no problems. So the cheap 37 each catalytic convertors from ebay worked out great. I also put a O2 sensor in exhaust pipe to dial in the air fuel ratio.

Back when Texas still used a sniffer my 81 had to be tested and even a mild 400 needed cats to clean up the idle emissions.
Even the roller cammed 455 in my 78 passed at rpm-but it did not need the sniffer then. Not at idle though
