So I ran out this evening to pick up a pizza in my daily vehicle. When I pulled out onto the main road, I was going east, with the sun behind me. I had pulled out behind a older year small pickup. On the rear window there was some type of highly reflective material. I couldn't tell what it was because I was too far back, like maybe 200 feet. But also I couldn't tell because the reflection nearly completely blinded me. I slowed down and moved over into the left lane but that didn't really help. It was super intense, really intolerable, pain threshold king of thing. I only had to go about a 1/4 mile so I just toughed it out but if not I'd have had to pull off the road. I doubt it will be very long before he gets pulled over. At least I hope so. Crazy.

I've never seen anything like that before. I just looked it up and I can't believe it's legal. At least not for rear windows in SUVs and especially pickups.

All of that tinting is illegal. We have drivers who tint their windshields almost black around here in Metro Detroit. You can't even see a person in these vehicles anymore. I am glad my son is no longer a police officer. It seems after covid; everybody does what they want.

I've heard from a father of a state policeman in Philadelphia they do not stop for expired inspection stickers or license plates. Just too many! I wonder how true. I do think there is so many who cant afford there car or dont care. It's amazing every day how defensive you have to drive. I was just backing into a place at my bank.i started backing up some guy cut behind me luckily I was going slow.

My windows are pretty damn dark on almost everything I own. It's usually the first thing I do to a vehicle.

Don't tint anything, just factory tint. I'm not into the black out look.
It's kinda been played out like tattoo's./
My Brother's a retired NY Leo 30 yrs.
Imagine having to pull over and walk up to these vehicles nowadays.

Was following my buddy's 33 ford and had the same issue, his window is not tinted but straight up and down, was early morning and the reflection off that window
was unreal. I guess it was just the direction of vehicle and where the sun was at causing the issue. But ya was not good. I could see how it could cause major
accident. Dam sun anyway.

I also get blinded by reflected sunlight down here in Georgia. Certain times of the day and going in an East or Westward direction the sun will reflect off of rear windows or even the outside mirrors. As far as the tint, I use what is allowed by law on my rear windows and a strip across the top of the windshield.
Several years ago I was driving a firetruck, responding with sirens and red lights. A car ran the stop light in front of me crossing my path. He told police he could not tell what direction the sirens were coming from. His windows were so dark that he could not see the red lights or the huge firetruck coming at him. Luckily, I was only a block from the fire station and was only running about 20-25mph. Only minor damage was done to both vehicles. I hit the brakes but a fully loaded firetruck with an extra 4, 000 pounds of water won't stop on a dime!

Have same problem but with a office building. In the morning I crest a hill and get blinded by a reflection off a building's glass about a mile away. Sun hits it and zap I get it! Not much I can do. I Pa insp cars, State say's I can fail a car for front windshield tint,side and rear are ok. Only police can pull you over for frt tint being excessive. And they do, except for Philadelphia anything goes there.

So it seems like things this are maybe not that uncommon? But in my life I've never experienced anything like that before. Anyway, when it happens, it's basically the same as looking directly at the sun. The thing is that if you look at the sun you can always look away. But when your traveling down the road and this reflection thing happens, you can't really look away, at last not for very long.... Does anyone else remember the CHIPS episode when there was an unexplained fatal crash on the Interstate and they eventually found the driver was blinded by a large mirrored glass being transported to a construction project? CHIPS, LOL.

I do! I was remembering this episode too. The theory was proved the next day they replicated the scene
