Default 3rd gen alternate VIN locations

I am trying to determine the VIN of an 83 Trans Am. Water leak completely corroded the number at the base of the windshield. A sticker on the door jamb is completely illegible. I had read that a possible location was on the bulkhead around the rear hatch latch, but I found nothing there.

Any suggestions?

The front body support rail, passenger side should have the VIN stamped in.

RPO tag too (glovebox)

Thanks for the reply, Bob. The “glovebox” is just a vinyl pouch attached to the face of the dash. Do you know if the fender has to be removed to see the part of the support structure with the number?

I would think loosened up, not removed.

You should have a RPO sticker, maybe in the back hatch area. Pretty sure you have a small opening for the spare tire.

Also - underneath the center console lid, my '84 has it there.

And - the RPO list might of not started until 1984. So '83's might not have it (RPO sticker)

Thanks again. I also found out the data plate (cowl tag) is not on the cowl but on the radiator support. Car is at a friend’s house and I have to get with him to check it out.
