Default 73 Rally Gauge dash in an 70 Formula

I did a quick search, but not finding the best answer to my question…

As the title says, I plan on putting my dash that came out of my 73 formula (that has the rally gauges) into my 70 formula restomod. The original dash there was plain Jane, with idiot lights.

I can see that the 73 gauge cluster uses a 16 pin connector, versus the 70 wiring harness has a 12 pin connector.

For this reason, I was thinking I would be better off utilizing the 73 harness and mixing and matching some of the connectors where needed?

The 73 harness is probably in better shape as it has not been in service for nearly as long as that car was put into storage in 1980. Just not sure if that’s opening up a can of worms for a lot of other connections

I am not at all an electrical guy, so would love to hear any comments or suggestions on where to go with this. Thanks in advance!
