I would have to agree that it's the modified ascpect which caused the issue with Hagerty. I don't have anything insured for that value (I have the Bonneville at $35,500 right now, which is probably a bit on the low side, but what she fetch? $40? $45? $50?). The point is that it's easier to peg a completely stock car to market values. The same can be said of any one-off vehicle.
That is not to say that Hagerty is any better than any of the other carriers. I used to have Condon & Skelly ages (and ages) ago. Hagerty gave me a better deal, and I currently have five cars with them (six, if I count the '68 De Ville in my brother's name), all stock. No problems with valuation (in fact, they even want me to increase the values of my two Safari projects). As to why they wouldn't accept an appraisal, I haven't a clue.

I have my '75 Firebird (heavily modified) road race car with Hagerty. They didn't hesitate to insure it for $40k. If I would have asked for lots more, maybe they would be more fussy. I didn't get the optional on-track insurance. I'm sure it would be way too expensive
Eric.

my opinion is that if the coverage isn’t what you want, go elsewhere.
regardless as to whom you go with, the rate will be directly tied to the insured value - so odds are you will end up paying a little more. I like hagerty because they are unique in my market at offering specialty insurance with no mileage ect limitations - their only real stickler is that it cannot be your daily driver.

I have AXA classic car insurance bought thru a company named Leland West. They don’t push back much on the agreed value and for $50 extra per year they allow me to drive it to work 2x/week (obviously not very trackable but I rarely go beyond that).
It’s about $475 for a $65K stated value policy.

Just dropped my 1969 Harley xlch with them. Saved a hundred dollars going to Progressive. Have my 1984 Peterbilt with State Farm. I do have 3 Pontiac's and a Jeep with them. Never a claim in over 25 yrs. but there always trying not let me opt out of Mi. P.I.P. coverage which saves me alot. Its a scam.

My State Farm agent has his seven cars insured with Hagerty. Probably says about all that needs to be said on that.
We probably have another factor at work here. Most years of GTO's have suffered a heavy decrease in value in the last few years. If I called up and tried to insure my GTO for what it is now insured for, any insurer would probably hang up on me.

Well I had a very good conversation with a State Farm agent my friend uses, he should have been the guy I called first. Very informative, and he is a car guy too, so he understands . He said more than likely they will utilize their valuation tools to establish a value, but like he had stated, it doesn't take into account things like show quality finishes (mine is) where you have thousands just in the cut/buff process. I know I'll never insure it for what I have in , just want to have as much coverage as I can though.
Unfortunately I'm flagged now, unless I want to do a write up on the car and see if they will move the needle. He said his brother, who also has classic cars, simply insures with both Grundy and Hagerty. He sends the same info, and goes with whomever has the best terms. So he suggested I call Grundy. So to the point of the other Grundy users who replied, Grundy appears to operate very much the same as Hagerty.

I left Hagerty years ago, my new carrier is cheaper, but you don’t get a magazine to beat the dog with.
Hagerty had a booth set up at the troy Traffic j@m before Woodward, I walked up to asked a few questions, the 2 girls were in such a deep talk between themselves they would even look up to talk. |

Don't want to hijack this thread, but what about us doing a frame off restoration with the car in literally hundreds of pieces? I'll start a new thread in THE LOBBY.

Interesting
Been using Hagerty for years and never had an issue creating a policy My Roadrunner and Model A both have agreed policies for $40k Didn't need any receipts, just sent in a few photos (both FAR from stock) On my 70 T/A, I started off with an agreed policy for $80k (again, just sent in a few photos), then they contacted me about a year later suggesting that I bump it up to $100k due to rising market value. I went ahead and did so Last year, they contacted me again suggesting that I bump it up to $120k for a $100 bucks more a year, but I declined and stuck with the $100k policy Up for renewal next month, so we'll see what they say this time around. |
