Oh, I knew what you meant. I figured I'd add the fuller quote for context. AFAIK, the 1/2 clear wheel was not a build date difference, but rather offered throughout the model year with the deluxe package.

As for the deluxe wheel on that 67 FBird,it looks to me to be recast,
just too nice and clear to be almost 60 yrs old.
Look at the 67 with 13K on it which also has a half clear wheel
thats basically the same. True we dont know how both cars were stored
but that Executive is a real time capsule.

Well, the clear deluxe steering wheel was shown in the first Firebird sales brochure for 1967. They could surely have discontinued the option later on (as they discontinued the WS6 performance package for my '82 SE, which led me to receiving the WS7: everything in the WS6 except rear wheel disc brakes - D'Oh!).

That said, it is true that I have no definitive proof that the option didn't go away later on, only that it was shown in the sales literature apparently at the beginning of production.

Best I can do. All disclaimers apply (I'm not an expert, I don't hold myself out to be one, I don't own a '67, and my memory is not as good as it once was). I'd love to find some more definitive proof. Perhaps in one of the detailed Firebird Auto-biography books available something more authoritative could be found.

Sunlight is such a killer to materials and finishes which have little to no UV resistance. My original wheel in my '63, while only having one full crack in the clear (several in the black), has lots of internal fissures in the clear and the clear has been yellow since the '70's (at least). (Of course, this is worse for convertibles as there is so much more undiffused sunlight exposure when the top is down.)

My '63 was garage-kept from '68-'72, outside until '76, and has been garage kept since then. I attribute most of the UV damage to the interior to top-down driving and her pre-1968 days. As we know, once UV damage starts, it does not stop simply by removing the item from the sun (it merely slows the already-started degradation).

I would have to agree, however, that those wheels appear to be too good to be original unless both cars were stored inside, covered (which is always possible, I suppose).

It , or very similar customization , was offered about 10 or more years ago .
All the same rearward and rear bumper treatments.
I didn't think anyone would ever buy it , but I guess this guy did.
Some mistakes I just wouldn't admit . 50k is going to be a hard sale for a very long time.

That silver on black bird is sharp, sits perfect too. Only the spoilers are out of place. 2 speed automatic is unusual (T-handle shifter).

Price is dreamer, especially this year.

The other day it was $50k .
I'm pretty positive it's the same car from 10-15 years ago.
Believe it was the yellow color like the door jambs back then.
And also think I would remember if it was in NC back then too.

No way to ever forget those quarter panel and rear bumper treatments .
Can't imagine anyone doing copy-cat on those quarters , the rear bumper - maybe.
Without the early 70's retro mods and 1/4" thick paint it might would be worth 30-40 . nom
