Hey team, I recently purchased a 1965 GTO Tri-Power 4 speed car that was disassembled sometime prior to 1984, and the hood has gone missing. I've not been able to locate a hood within a reasonable distance (BC, Canada), and thought about buying the repro hood.
I'm a LONG way from installing it, so maybe best to be patient, unless the reproduction hoods are good quality. Cheers, Brian

They're pretty good but not perfect. They have to use the 67 style bolts instead of the 65-66 studs with nuts. Metal wise, they're usually slightly cupped around the sides of the scoop. That can be worked out. The majority of people won't know it's a repop, but the purist can usually tell. I want to say there's a fitment issue when using an original scoop insert, but don't hold me to that. My Lemans came with one of these hoods, but i sold it because I went with the original hood.

Overall pretty good....a little lighter than an original. There is also a low spot adjacent to the scoop that needs some work. As noted previously, the original scoop insert doesn't fit properly.....the repop insert works fine.

I appreciate the insight. I can be a bit patient and try to find an original hood for now. I do have the original scoop insert.
The couple hoods I've seen for sale (way far from here) have been double the price of the repop. Cheers, Brian

If you find an actual 65 hood in mint cherry condition , it is probably worth the extra price.
65 didn't have the front hood emblem crest. 66 hood is a good alternate too. |

I just obtained a repop hood for cheap. OEM scoop does not fit. Also, the under bracing has 2 square cutouts that the OEM hood did not have. Slight depression in the scoop area as other have stated.
I couldn't pass it up at the price I got it for. From what I can tell from the OEM junk hood I have (skin removed from Under bracing, The repop hood under bracing can be modified to allow the use of the 65/66 hinge bolt set up. Have not pulled the trigger yet cutting out the thread nuts like the 67 OEM hood. |
