Look at the fuse you took out. I blew the fuse in my 69 convert and bought a pack of higher amperage fuses from Amazon. Off the top of my head, it blew a 25A fuse and was ok at 30A. What was in there initially was a fuse with tin foil wrapped around it... ug.

Factory power top set up was a fusing bar if no other electric assists (seat or windows) or a breaker if the car has seat or window assists. I can't check right now but pretty sure they are 30 or 35 amps.

It's a 40 Amp circuit breaker.
Look in the back of your owners manual under fuse specifications A circuit breaker is better than a fuse for things like power windows, seats and top. If there is an obstruction which stalls out the motor it will trip the circuit breaker. After a short period of time it will reset and operation can resume after the obstruction is removed. If it was fused, you're stuck with a half open window or top until the fuse can be replaced Circuit breakers are available from our sponsor. https://www.amesperf.com/parts/26576/ .

But like anything 50 plus years old they can fail. Typically if they go bad they will just jump at lower than their rated capacity.

You all might find this discussion of an auto breaker interesting. I found it a while back. Be sure to watch the video.

And your headlights work on the same principle. If you have a shorted beam, the headlight switch internal circuit breaker will open and reset until the beam or short has been repaired. This will allow you to travel during the night to the next service facility. The only difference is, the headlight circuit breaker is built into the switch.
