been watching this thing on market place for months, finally broke down grabbed. was a butker custom ground cam, i think the guys had it 20 years now or longer. never been out of the bag.
what kinda power do you guys think its capeable of? given the right heads/cubic inch |

Its almost the same cam I ran for years on the old 9.3 CR HO engine. Ran 10.80s
Mine was a .417.6 lobe UD solid roller. .264-.271 on a 106. The lobes are real safe on a stock block, no fast ramp deal. Intensity number of 36. 32 is the line safe-too aggressive. Tim told me that lobe on a sbc with their real light valve train you can run pretty light valve spring pressure and the cam-lifters last a long time. Well, light by what we are used to. Not sure if it was a Butler cam. |

A FWIW tid bit regarding the UltraDyne 0.4176 lobe series.
Previously on my current 505 I used a very aggressive UltraDyne MSP series solid roller with 0.4300" lobe lift. In an effort to run a less aggressive solid roller profile and to lessen the spring pressure, but retaining the same 0.050" duration, I worked with Tim at Bullet Racing. He suggested a UltraDyne .4176 series lobe. Tim stated years ago they used to run it with a typical Small Block Chevy valve train mass with around 190 lbs seat pressure, in a Big Block Chevy valve train mass at around 220 lbs. ( Those seat pressure numbers do not represent an endorsement involving any specific Pontiac valvetrain mass. They were offered for general interest only ) .

I had a very similar cam and ran 10.80's in my 69 Firebird at 3760 lbs. Street shape and thru 4 mufflers.

I have done a little bigger .4176” profiles, I have spent quite a bit of time talking to Tim about them. They build a lot of cylinder pressure with pretty low compression when the LSA is narrowed up to 106* to 108*. I recall Tim saying some SBC with 1.5 rockers you could run as low as 170# seat, and a Pontiac can be as low as 190# with a 1.5.
I would probably only install it at 102* if the induction was pretty limited or compression was on the low end below 10. I believe I did a .4176” that was slightly bigger on a 108* LSA in a 9:1 455 and a 4000 stall in. As I recall 600 HP in a 455 with 10:1 or more SCR or more cubes yet installing the ICL at 106* makes it run the hardest. With a 320 to 330 cfm heads and bigger ratio rockers it can make about 620 to 640 HP at about 6K. Out of the box round port Aluminum head maybe upper 500s at just under 6K. With more head flow and compression on a friendly dyno it could probably go beyond 650 HP, but there would be better cams options at that point. Last edited by Jay S; 11-01-2025 at 10:13 AM. |

Another combo that I used a UltraDyne 0.4176" lobe solid roller.
462 CID 4.210" stroke 6.625" rods JE custom pistons '69 #16 d-port heads / depending on the bench 280-291 cfm 12.49:1 compression 264 / 271 @ .050" .04176" lobe lift / w 1.65 RR 108 LSA Victor intake / Carb Shop Stage III 750 Holley (rated 926cfm) 1-7/8" headers First dyno session Feb 1998 - 626 HP @ 6400 / 611 TQ @4900 .

i just put a .417 cam in my sons 'my old 462' a few weeks back. i was trying to talk him out of using that cam so i could run it in a 467. that cam is a .417 lobe 271/279/ on a 104lsa. 10.8cr.
im sure you all seen my 64cc head post the other day, i was thinking about putting this cam in the 467 motor. with those heads it would be around 13.1 cr my plan, i have a few mp efi setups but the simplest one to use right now is the sniper 4500tb . i was gonna run it on e85 for the compression. i have another motor that can be swapped in the car too and use this same set up. im torn, i love the sound of a n/a motor....but i also like the fi motors....so im a building a few versions of each Last edited by performerrpm; 11-01-2025 at 11:58 AM. |

I should have clarified, the 620 to 640 HP with 320-330 cfm heads would be for pump gas. Built for E85 you could likely add 10% on top of that. At very least 5%.

the heads have are ported eheads...but id just guessing at flow. i hope they are atleast in the 310 range...guy bought from said 330 sd perf heads.
but theyre stambed rre so thats all out the window lol |
