Fellow has a nice clean 67 Sprint Bird 4spd car. Thinks the engine is a replacement. ... It is a ZD with 4bbl. Anyone that knows where the casting date codes are - would be helpful. Intake - Head - Block And maybe VIN stamp location in case it's a 68 or 69 I don't know squat about the 6's He also does not have PHS to prove the car. 2L on trim tag = 4 speed It also has 4H on trim tag , that I couldn't find reference to. Thanks for any knowledge and help. |

Baron, You should have posted in the OHC 6 section. lol
The block date code is between the oil fill tube and the rear of the engine. If it is a 68/9 block, a VIN will be located on a vertical pad, left of the oil fill tube on the flange where the bell housing mounts up. The manifold date code is on the bottom side, rear intake runner. The exhaust manifold will make it hard to read. The head code is under the cam tower. So you won’t get that number as the owner will not pull it to get it. If you are serious about it, get the PHS and compare the EUN on the block and paperwork. This car looks correct to be a Sprint/4spd. Correct badging, dual traction bars with Nodular? rear axle. 4spd looks like the correct Saginaw with damper/weight attached. The engine has the correct two letter code, but will need the PHS to confirm EUN. The HB is off a 1bbl. The air cleaner lid needs to be chromed to be correct. The fuel line could be redone to be correct, as well as the engine harness hangers are missing. Fuel pump is an Airtex rebuildable type, which can be changed out easily. The carb looks to be the correct one, with the Chevy style inlet. (66/67 only) That is what I see off hand. I hate to nit pick….Very clean car though!

I forgot all about the OHC section .oops
I spotted the block date in one of his pictures - but it's too blurry. It does look to end in a 7 is all I can tell about it. The EUN is really high. And hand stamped . Too high for a January car. But he stated it is a Replacement Engine from the start. So the Harmonic Balancer is from a 1 bbl engine ? I'm not at all interested in buying it. Trying to help the bidders get better info on it. No PHS with 40 year ownership is sketchy . Might be a converted 1 bbl car |

It could be a 1bbl car, but I doubt it. The Sprint is the only OHC 6 car to get the dual traction bars due to the manual transmission optioned on a 4bbl OHC 6. (3.55 rear gear std) They would have went to a lot of trouble to add it during the restoration. The floor brace where it is attached is not reproduced and it part of the floor pan.

According to this dealer order sheet - from another Sprint Bird
The 4spd floor shift was not available with 6cyl 1bbl We know it's a 6cyl by VIN And 4spd by 2L on trim tag Dual traction bars Does this defacto prove it to be Sprint ? Or is the order sheet wrong ? Appears the only manual with 6cyl 1 bbl is 3 on the tree.

I also can't find anything on internet about the 4H code on trim tag.
Have been looking at a lot of 67 Bird trim tags and not found another with it either. Some of those were Sprint Birds as well. Thinking it's a Fisher mod to the rear half of body Maybe rear speaker or rear defog Where would a rear defog switch be on a 67 Bird ? |

Wow this car sold for more than I paid for my 67 sprint 4-speed survivor with working A/C. Good for the seller! I am surprised a non NOM car brought that much in the current time frame

34,500 plus whatever BaT buyer fee is.
I think it was more of johnny come latelies , than dyed in the wool pontiac'ers. Replacement engine and 66 carburetor It was in really nice condition though. In my opinion , not having the PHS with 40 years of ownership meant they weren't expecting anywhere near the amount it sold for. A more premium example stalled at 30k a couple or few years ago - RNM on BaT. |

If that one on BAT was white with a Blue Interior it is the one I own now.

Yes that is it . Was 4 years ago on BaT .
Much more premium and desirable. Cream puff extraordinaire . Congratulations on that Bird A lot of activity on the front of the engine. I had a 67 Sprint hood tach (not a car) with 6500 rpm redline for a long time. Sold it about 10 years ago on eBay. It was nice condition and painted orbit orange. ![]()

Thanks, yeah that is my car, I was the high bidder, and the seller had a bit of an unrealistic Idea of the Value of the car, IMO. But I bought it for the price of my high bid, and what fees I would have paid to BAT. So you can say I bought it for my high Bid, but I paid the fee to the seller not BAT. It actually has a 3-groove Power steering Pump pulley, due to the Smog pump and A/C. You can see it in the picture you posted. No one can ever remember seeing one before. Its a nice driving car now that the rear brakes work. The rear wheel cylinders were shot when I bought it. It would hardly stop the car with only the front Manual Drums working.

Would you by chance have a picture of the Engine code / EUN to compare ?
The EUN on the green car looked crude and hand stamped. I'm not at all familiar with those engines -- is that typical stamping on these ? Can't recall seeing another Sprint with AC PS and Smog . It is eye catching. Great color package , plus 4spd hood tach with Posi . Ultra unique Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 11-11-2025 at 11:43 AM. |

Almost all OHC-6 codes look like they were hand stamped in a hurry IMO. My cars is the 1st picture, the recent BAT 67
And Gary the upper Radiator Hose was the 2nd thing I took car of after the rear brakes.
