I have a bare 1966 tripower intake with water neck and TC, all original. How much is this stuff worth?

I think 1 if not 2 aftermarket pontiac tripowers hit the market in the last couple of years. Having access to more modern design with the classic three carb styling probably took a little wind out of the market for the OEM peices.
I think its the carbs that really scares people away. A lot of horror stories on the boards about people trying to get their Tripowers going and finding out their carbs are all wrong. The KRE intake is avaiable for the stock Rochester carbs or Holley 2300 carbs, which would be easier to get new off the shelf and allow the use of EFi throttle bodies.

I often get calls for OEM cast iron '66 Tri-Power intakes. For years, $400 has been the benchmark price. The aftermarket aluminum version is about the same price.
The demand for OEM intakes has not changed, in my opinion. Many people are not aware that the end carbs are identical for 1 964-1966. The rarest Tri-Power carb is the OEM center. But, there are a number of the large 2G carbs that work fine on a '66 Tri-Power. Some of them cannot be distinguished from the OEM '66 center unless you read the casting number on the float bowl. I normally have several of the correct OEM center carbs on the shelf, but unless the correct numbers are needed, the clones often are acceptable. Many are not aware that the OEM center carb has a relatively small venturi size compared to available clone 2G carbs. The attached picture has a clone center carb without the idle vent, which is prestent on the OEM ceenter carb.

$350.00-$400 seems to be the going price for a nice core with a water neck. The problem is they are hard to find without carburetors. When equipped with derelict carburetors, 1,2 or all three, the price spikes greatly. Then it's up to the buyer to decide if they are correct or able to be rebuilt properly with the correct throttle arms and fuel inlets and such.

I have one with water neck. And all 3 carbs, frozen but have them all. AND the I.D. tags are still there. Think I have part of the linkage, the big vacuum bulb and one air cleaner.

I have no skin in the game, but maybe my observation is worth something;
At one time, you would be lucky to see a single tri power setup at a swap meet; Last year at the PDx swap meet, I stopped counting vendors with them. My hunch is that the market for these has flipped from a sellers market to a buyers market.

i would agree....theres a 65 set up complete on my marketplace thats only missing air cleaners. started at 1500, down to 1100 or 1000 now. i think all the efi kits is whats brought them down. if a good single or dual carb set up was worth swapping out a tri power, i think the idea of mpfi is. ive always thought the tri powers were tbe coolest pontiac part out there, which is why my 66 set up will stay on the shelf or on one these motors i have. |

I ran a 1966 tri power on my 440 in my 1970 Bird they are interesting, easy on the eyes but there isn't any magic outside of that IMO. ... I had an automatic maybe a stick car first gear flat 3000 RPM stab it slam second gear would of been more fun
