There was a thread recently about retirement where I posted that my wife and I were close but not quite there. Main reason being access to 403b funds based on age(s).
Turns out we were not getting the best advice. I had some doubts, so after discussions with some other advisors, it appears that we are actually in really good shape to retire now. My wife and I turned in our resignations 2 weeks ago. We have a contractual obligation until 1/24/26 and we are counting the days until then. 1/25/26 is going to be a great day.

I'm thinking of retiring for the 5th time in January.
My recent work load has been exhausting. I've worked 11 days this year... |

The one thing no-one says on their deathbed surrounded by loved ones? ‘God I wish I’d have worked one more day’. Congratulations on your retirement sir!

Congrat's! I am planning on joining you at then end of January 2026, my poor wife will have to work a few more years as she is 8 years younger than I am. But I think she will be able to retire in about 2 1/2 years

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the thoughts. Yes, we are going to maximize our time off between now and the end. I'm just glad we decided to look for a new advisor.

Congratulations. I've been threatening to retire for about four years now. I had some things I wanted to get done before I pulled the plug. Both my wife and I are now on Medicare. I'm currently on medical leave due to having hip replacement surgery. The hip replacement was the last thing on the list. I'm probably going to retire in spring or early summer.

I'm retiring this Friday...woohoo! My first benefit check won't be deposited until mid-December...I wonder how you got yours so soon? I filed for retirement back in July.
Congrats to everyone who is retiring soon! Dennis |

It’s been 10 years since I was forced to retire at the age of 62.
I experienced an unforeseen health issue (I seem to be all good now) that in a way was a blessing in disguise as it got me off the city streets I worked on. My employer provided an awesome retirement with all benefits, plus the SSA boost in addition after 31 years of work. Many people never make it to this milestone, but I did and I feel blessed. Congratulations to all of you that are able to achieve this sweet spot in your later years! |

I just did it for the 2nd time. This time I’m not married, so I doubt I will like work & go back like the last time.
When you get to where you don’t know what day of the week it is - you’re doing it RIGHT.

Congratulations on your retirement! I retired 15 years ago at 51 years old, I'm too useless now for anyone to hire me. A couple things to remember during retirement are: 1) You won't like weekends much anymore because the working people are off and in your way for everything and 2) Your week will now consist of 7 days.... 6 Saturdays and one Sunday. Enjoy them all!
