Rock Valley Tanks in Rockford IL knocked out a great tank for me, here's the details.
https://rockvalleytanks.com/products...50178504982823 1969 GTO Stainless Steel Brushed finish (extra $) Dual 450 walbro pumps (going to 84mm Torqstorm) Dual pump coated hanger 8an outlets Two fuel sending units (extra $) SS 7", 90ohm by 100tech (OEM dash) Holley Fuel Level (Holley Dash) They knocked it out in about 7 business days My old tank was a sumped Ricks Hot Rod but fit the above they wanted $150 more, then 6 weeks minimum and then shipping was $180 so roughly $330 more and way more time. Bob was great, really took into account my ideas and situation, trying to beat the winter here in IL with a fuel relay issue that's causing it to eat new relays every 20 starts so I was doing this anyways this winter.

I can't remember if it was ricks or rock valley that was suggested to me by Highway but when I contacted them about doing a larger capacity tank for a G-body they were at first interested and said they had the templates. When they asked me what capacity I told them stock was 22 so I'd like to do a 25 or more if possible. After that dead silence, they weren't interested so I moved on.
Maybe I'll try the other one you mentioned. Thanks for the info. |

Bob at Rock Valley showed me a lot of oddball fuel tanks, custom ones too so they are up for ideas. I even asked about my Eagle Talon and there wasn't a hesitation so you probably talked to Ricks since they're backed up 6 weeks minimum and probably would prefer their catalog to build to keep up and not lose customers like me who aren't waiting 6+ weeks for a tank that's more expensive.

Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing. We had to add a custom cutout/extension in order to get dual 450’s in my Tank inc setup. This would’ve been a better option

You can have Rock Valley send you a 'template' drawing of the model you are working with, and draw on it to make your mods.
My A-body one I previously had was a 26 gal, and think they did that by just adding 2.5" to the bottom (in design). You would be surprised how much of a diff that makes, well worth the effort. It's almost like an extra 1/4 tank full. Surprised they went dark on anyone, that's not the norm for them, I suspect it just slipped through the cracks. They knock stuff out pretty fast, and quality is excellent. They are busy though, they pump them out. And get hammered with inquiries. I think Rick's is overwhelmed, and they cater to a number of high end build shops, who seem to get a priority. (contracts). They gave me like a 3 mo lead time for a custom, so just did one that was off the shelf. (so to speak). They can be difficult to get ahold of too. They forgot to send me a filler neck, which made me wait another week, wasn't too happy about that, but the tank is sweet. The filler neck also has a anti-surge baffle, something that the Tanks Inc stuff irked me on. Rick's did finally fix their' website tho, it was completely painful to use for the longest time. There are a bunch of others out there too that do tanks, many don't advertise, or advertise well. And fab shops will do them too. Prices are all over the board, don't be offended when you get sticker shock, especially from fab shops, they work off an X base rate. .

Got it installed, some things required a lot of time.
The straps were at least 4" off, we're not sure if on accident they made the tank deeper but I'll say it needed 15 gallons of fuel and the gauge was a tad over 1/4 so maybe it's a 22 gallon etc, IDK. If you want tank strap cushions, you'll need to get them, 1 or 2", picture is 1". If you want to add rubber squares to the top of the tank to cushion against trunk you'll need at least 4. The filler neck is a screw on female cap, neck is external threaded, it's not a traditional fuel cap filler neck so you can't use a locking cap like I do. It's really nice, straps weren't correct (they were stamped 68-72 Chevelle) but tank belly might've been bigger than normal. I have dual 450 pumps, 2nd pump turns on at 4500rpm and I'm prepping for future Torqstorm 84mm. I'll tweak turn on to 1psi once SC is on. I added an external Y fitting, dual 8an to one 10an outlet fitting so both pumps with meet quickly and then go into my Aeromotive 40mic filter.

You should contact them, they may make it right in one way or another. Again, a little surprised, this was not the experience I've had with them in the past.
You say the straps were 4" off? Like too long? I don't run the cushions, they go away too fast anyway from chafing and crumble from fuel, pointless IMO, everything is stainless anyway, crank on it. I used a rolling pin to help form them as I tightened them, turned out great. If you add an external Y you should probably put a one way check valve in, if one pump isn't running you could possibly bleed off PSI. Believe Fuel Safe makes high quality ones. Odd too is the neck/cap, I've never heard of that. Rick's provides a modern neck and cap, maybe see if you can grab one from them if you're not happy with the one you got, and Rock Valley won't do anything about it. .

I have not run into a screw on gas cap as of yet. I guess that could have it's good and bad points. One not so great is that sounds like it's not going to be vented.
Sounds like it's coming along though. Always seems to be quirks to work through with these projects |

Most aftermarket tanks have at least one vent built in, so you really don't need a vented cap.
The Rick's tanks as mentioned have a modern cap and anti-surge baffle in the neck. Anyone that's had a Tanks Inc tank and filled the tank from a gas pump can appreciate the anti-surge feature. Here's a pic of the cap on my Rick's tank: .

My first tank was a Ricks, I'm selling it now on the board. The thread neck on the Rock V is a PIA IMO trying to get it on and there's no safety against douche bags.
Rock Valley straps = way too short, not even close and costs me hundreds at the shop to remedy. There's a picture in the other post that shows a cylinder adapter was needed to make up the room. I think they made my tank taller because it needed 15 gallons of fuel and the thing was a little over 1/4 on the gauge. I don't plan on getting fuel on the cushions but I prefer the cushions, more that I think of it I can't recall a factory fuel tank that didn't have them. It's a great tank, but like life the small side dishes can sour the meal a little.

The straps don't go all the way up the side of the tank, they go maybe 2/3rds of the way up the side of the tank. And you don't need a spacer. Maybe the F bodies are different, do you have a pic of the OE setup?
Did you call them about the straps? They could have sent you longer ones I guess? No one 'plans' on getting fuel on the cushions, but you have a vent by the cap or a vented cap, or no anti-surge baffle in the fill neck, when you accelerate, brake hard, or during fueling, there's a good chance it will puke out some. As for the pad on top of the tank, OE was just 2 strips of foam. Of course since the top of the new tank is flat, the 2 strips really won't work well to isolate it. I just use a sheet of Dynamat, works great. And can help decrease the drone from anything half tank or lower. I don't think any other supplier of aftermarket tanks provide the strips or mats. I think the OE tanks were 19 gallons. Would have to check but that's what I remember. I'm not understanding what you're saying about the 1/4 tank and 15 gallon thing? .
