I especially like finding old things I can actually use. I love mechanical pencils. This is one from a local tractor dealer. Pencil looks almost new. The would estimate it’s from the late 50’s. Works fine and has extra leads inside

I found 3 of these glass cat eye reflectors, a 1934 Buck knife and another Red Ryder BB gun.

A few things I picked up garage sailing a couple weekends ago. I believe the jack to be from a model T. 1913 or 1914 date on it.
The Auto Bingo had never been used. Looks like its maybe late 50s?

I found these at the last swap meet I was at. I paid a hundred dollars for both of them. I had to buy a repop Lucite Indian head for the one hood emblem. I also bought these 100 year old folding rulers

My wife and I are opening a small pizza place with an auto/50s type theme. Been buying items to decorate the place. Prices are so crazy these days that we have to do a mix of original and repo stuff. Any signs on the exterior will be repo, though I did get an old gas pump that I will be putting out front.
This is just the stuff we picked up over the weekend. I have a few items stored in the garage at home, as well as a lot of pieces out of my own collection. Still more shopping to do!

Those signs should make for a kewl pizza shop. Have that nostalgic feeling with that nice pizza smell. I made pizza at a little shop when I first got out of the Army. The waitress that I worked with was drunk by lunchtime, so it made for some interesting times.
I have been hoping to find some old Pontiac signs but those are very scarce. There is some new signs on ebay

The 55 Chevy front end actually has a stainless steel counter and shelves on the backside. That going to be our cash register counter. It plugs in and lights up. Too bad it wasnt a 55 Pontiac.

I worked at a good pizza place for a short while after high school.
Morning Shift. We made the dough from scratch. Sauce came in big cans but we mixed in herbs and spices. Hand cut all the toppings. Can't remember about the beef and sausage toppings. It was a lot of prep work for 2 people full time. Best wishes in your journey. |

This past Sunday, I entered the Bonneville in the Long Island Street Rod Association show in Brentwood (that's Brentwood, NY). I didn't expect to win anything, as it was all popular vote, and of course, the focus was on street rods and other modified cars. However, there was a halfway decent little swap meet attached to the show (and not the mostly-flea-market-partly-car-parts type of meet, but a real swap meet). I picked up two sets of 18" Anco wiper refills for Trico arms and two sets of 15's (new, in old-style boxes) for $10/pr, and an engine stand for $20 (heck, you can't ship even the wheels for $20 these days). The stand was particularly fortuitous, as I'll soon be pulling the (incorrect) 347 from my '56 Safari, and my one stand is otherwise occupied.
So, in addition to meeting some great people and seeing some old friends, I actually picked up stuff at the meet that I can - and will - use. Go figure. When my buddy initially suggested I attend (even as a spectator, I poo-pooed the idea, as I figured it would all be centered around speed equipment and rods. Glad I went!

Nothing better than a swap meet, I could look at old parts for days.
The best thing we made at the pizza place I worked at was what we called a sambolli. It was basically a medium pizza with any ingredients you wanted on half of it and then pulled the other side over like a turnover. Some brushed butter on top so it browned in the pizza oven, it was great.

Went to the junkyard this weekend and saw this really clean Tempest. I dont know why people just dont sell these cars instead of scrapping them. It is a four door but the body was straight.

My sister in law called yesterday from a garage sale. Sent me photos of these and the prices. Couldnt pass them up, guy was practically giving them away. I have an automotive themed diner, so the door will hang on the wall outside as is, even though the Texaco sign was obviously added. The headlights? Ill have to look for a match to the one or the other, and maybe hang in my garage. Well see.
