Is anyone reproducing Protecto Plates?

I respectfully disagree. The main reason to have one reproduced would to be for fraudulent reasons. Turning base cars into high performance ones. I see this stuff with Corvettes all the time.
The excuse is always "I'll disclose it on resale". That seems to slip through the cracks. I remember a very well documented blue charcoal/blue '65 GTO clone that was on this forum and was sold off as a real GTO for top dollar after the car changed hands a couple of times. The kicker was the PHS was not available as it was lost in the fire that destroyed a swath of records. So it couldn't be disputed.

The ONLY reason I never replaced the missing WS 389 in my own '65 is because I actually have the POP.....and the EUN would never match the blown up and missing original. So why bother?
I am totally against reproduced records and plates, as they encourage deception.

My dad had an Addressograph machine for his business to make the steel address labels for the customer statements and envelope mailings. It would have produced an exact copy of the Chevy sample in one of the links above. The Pontiac plate would be impossible to reproduce on my dad's old machine (which I'm sure helped fill the city dump many years ago). It would be tough to make the Pontiac head impression and also the specially clipped corner. The smaller size of the Pontiac plate wouldn't be held in standard machines although I guess the standard plate could be cut down as an additional step after the stamping was complete. Much easier to loose the booklet if it doesn't agree with the current build.

I am talking about the plastic card for my 70 GP that came with the owners manual not the data tag for the firewall Earlier cars had metal ones. The cards were used by the dealers for warranty purposes

Im not sure what could be gained with a reproduction metal or plastic protect-o-plate, as opposed to a vin plate, but maybe someone can help me understand better. And yes, vin plates are reproduced.

For a purist having all the original documents is kinda neat. Manuals, build sheets,etc but the Protecto plate is almost unheardof. Just to be clear data tags are reproduced but not vin tags. It is illegal in my state to have a new vin tag. If it is damaged or missing the state police get involved to insure it is not a stolen vehicle

With PHS docs available, there doesn't seem to be much opportunity to make a Pontiac something it wasn't with a fake/repop protect-o-plate??

Protecto plates only had the original owners info and vin so the selling dealer could perform warranty work if needed.
It acted as a credit card so the dealer could get reimbursed from the factory The metal data tag on the firewall contains the info about the vehicle

The 1963 "IDENT-O-PLATE" was metal and in two parts:



and was glued to the inside back cover of the Owner Protection Plan booklet:

The stub of the last page of the booklet contained three perforated "verification vouchers" to be signed by the owner upon request for warranty service, attesting to the fact that the factory-specified maintenance had been undertaken, and that the dealer had explained the scope of the warranty services provided - I still have two left in this booklet.)

I'm not sure when the name changed to the PROTECT-O-PLATE, but I do know that in my '68 Deville, I have the "original" PROTECT-O-PLATE (in plastic, the size of a credit card, as previously mentioned), embossed for use with a Bartizan manual credit card slider, with my dad's name on it. Now, my dad was the second owner of that car, which he bought for my mom in 1970. The reason for the PROTECT-O-PLATE having his name on it is that it was purchased as a "certified pre-owned" car and came with a warranty (whether dealer-only or factory-backed I could not say). I don't have that car near me at the moment, but the PROTECT-O-PLATE is still in the glovebox.

I don't. I'll look through the booklet again later, in case there's a stamping somewhere. This fellow even had the first service coupon torn out (carefully).
