Wow, I haven't thought about Les in some time. I feel quite privileged to have caught his regular weekly gig at Fat Tuesday's in New York. I went with my good friend, George, the guitar player from my jazz fusion group. When we got in and got seated, we were right up front, and Les leaned down and said, "Hey, George! Glad you could make it!" He was quite a guy.

He spoke about Mary, too, and told his bass player that when he (the bassist, who was probably 30-40 years Les' junior) passed, he'd just have him stuffed, too , and would have to find somebody else to play bass. Hysterical. (Les was in his mid 80's at the time, I guess.)

Les Paul and Mary Ford recorded the Tiger Rag in '52. The chart itself goes back to Dixieland, before 1920. Les & Mary's version would indeed be fitting for the GTO!
