I thought it sounded just a touch hotter than a 068. Nice.

The 744 is the original 'Ram Air' camshaft;
Keep n mind that "Ram Air I", "Ram Air II", and "Ram Air III" terms are not PMD coined terms - they were applied later as a means of grouping engines - it helps that the 'Ram Air IV' lends to this working out quite nice (it was not coined "IV" because it was the fourth).

This cam was used in all the 1967 'Ram Air' engines (aka: "Ram Air I");
It was used in the manual backed 1968 D-port 'Ram Air' engines (aka: "Ram Air I");
It was also used in the early manual backed 1969 'Ram Air' engines (aka: "Ram Air III").

Essentially for 1968 & 1969 the automatic backed engines received a downgraded to the "HO" cam;
By the end of the 1969 model year all D-port 'Ram Air' engines received the "HO" camshaft - this was carried into 1970.
(Also in 1969 there was a greying of the distinction of the 'Ram Air' versus 'HO' 400cid engines.

Although it has been lambasted by some, I love the 744 cam.

Got the master installed. I ended up disassembling and cleaning the original 70 distribution block and brackets, hitting them with a little brass cleaner using steel wool. I ended up painting the brackets gray, as the original plating was smoked. I think it looks pretty good!

Even bigger news, I was able to take the car down the street! The first time the car has turned a wheel under its own power since 1999. I gave it an eyeball alignment and tightened the front-end down, a quick bleed of the brakes, and let it get up to temp. I'm happy to report no weird noises, no grinding, no pulling, and a smooth engaging clutch!

Here's some pics of the brake system. Boy GM really made a screwy system for 1970.

Looks great!

Can I ask where you got the plastic retainer that holds the washer fluid hose and wiring harness on the inner fender well? I've been looking and haven't been able to find them.

I got them from Ames. I can't find them on their site though. I know they're in the book. I'll see if I can grab the part number for ya

Not sure about the power brake option, but on non-powered brake system we discovered the brake lines are unique to the 1970 model year and were difficult to source.

OK, now that I have the good close up pic of yours it looks like it's the FP100A. Is that right?

Yup, those are them. They fit extremely tight, so it'll take some force to snap em in.

On the subject of these brake components;
I recently came across a listing on another site for a 1970 bake master/booster combo, and went to compare what I saw there against what I pulled off my car;

I did see that the stamping at the front of the reservoir was there;
EB ('E' was very faint, but the 'B' was captured in a photo with out too much difficulty)
Booster number 0426 (rear of top tab);
Date 132(?; front of top tab; obscured by front half of case).

I did not flip my stuff upside down to get the casting numbers or date off the reservoir, as it still a complete assembly (c/w short lines attached).

I saw the markings on the proportioning valves(?);
The listing I came across for that other set, didn't explain any of the markings from the smaller proportioning valve(?) - can anyone explain what the markings indicate?

Yours / mine
line 1: KH / KH
line 2: R / R
line 3 (4x size font): K / K
line 4 (vert after large 'K'): 055_0 / 135_0

The blue and green fittings on the brake lines won't be correct on a restoration of this level.
Best I can remember.

The 055_0 and 135_0 are likely production Julian dates.

Yeah, the colors on the fittings look a little off to me the more I look at them. I might leave them for a little while, see if they grow on me.

I'm flattered you guys think the car is on the higher levels of restoration. I know there's a few things that are incorrect, but I've definitely been trying to make it as nice as I can while still being able to drive it a decent amount per year. Means a lot coming from you guys on here!

Sanford Radiator located in Waterboro Maine. The owner is a super nice guy, very smart and clearly loves his craft.

It's not that far from me, so I just dropped it off and picked it up directly.

Tires finally came in after 11 months!

Stepped it up to a G60 to help fill out the wheel openings and give it a slightly wider footprint. Should look awesome. Already have the correct lugs and nos center caps, just have to get the tires mounted and balanced.

I'm gonna try and avoid having any balance weights on the front of the wheels, but sometimes it's unavoidable with steel wheels.

Not trying to hijack your resto 72.
Are these the correct colors other than the lines are stainless?
They look really close to the same as 72's project. Just put mine together.

Very nice work on the 70 TA 72

Any quality tire shop can balance any wheel including a steel wheel with hidden weights, they have to have a balancer that offers hidden weight modes and the majority of professional balancers made in the last 5-10 years offer a hidden weight mode. Essentially they will balance the wheel and apply sticky weights to the inside of the wheel hidden from view, the balancer will tell them exactly where to place the sticky weights. In the old days with older equipment it was referred to as static balancing which was inferior vs dynamic but got the job done.

Cool. I'll be curious to see how they look. I went with the FR60s on mine.

Got the tires mounted. All weights in the back. Nos center caps and reproduction 70 lug nuts.

I think they look awesome. The long wait sucked, but man, they really change the look. I like the height and width of the G60. I took a pic of one next to another Rally II wrapped in a 245/60 and they're pretty damn close.
