Where do I find a description or PN of the screws for the side marker lenses on 70 Tempest/LeMans?
Online search says they were "shouldered", but I don't have any like that kicking around so I'm not sure... Ames doesn't list anything. Classic Industries site says these OER brand are correct but I don't trust it and the part numbers aren't obvious in my copy of the assembly manual. The Classic Industries site has many other variants.... are any of these correct? https://www.classicindustries.com/sh...20lens%20screw Parts Place has 3 variants. Any idea which are correct for 70 Tempest side marker lens? |

I measured my side marker lens and found the bore to be ~0.22" and the length to be ~3/4". The "typical" shoulder diameter is ~0.19" which should fit.
Copilot somehow found these PNs that might work: • GM #9420501 → #8‑32 × 1.10" with ~0.64" shoulder (claims this is referenced in the 1966-1972 MPC group 2.585 as correct for the lens) • GM #9420499 → #8‑32 × 15/16" with ~0.50" shoulder. • GM #9420500 → #8‑32 × 1.00" with ~0.56" shoulder. AMK's B-10403 appears to match the 9420501 above, even though their referenced GM PNs are different. AMES sells a few different part numbers but they all seem to be the same. One of their sales guys was kind enough to physically measure and told me their B152WC matches the 9420499 above. I will probably try the 15/16" AMES version unless anyone here knows it isn't long enough. Mike |

Shoulder screws with 8-32 machine threads didn't work. Worse than not so much.
The screw goes into a clip which is too coarse for a 32 TPI machine screw. It has to be a coarser-threaded screw, probably pointed. I found a couple pan-head screws in my pile that were ~1-1/8" long and they work. May not be "correct" but they fit. |

I was out at storage and came across these screws. Maybe you can ID...

HFR, thank you for taking the time to chase this trivia.
It's not even a small deal but as long as I was ordering fasteners I thought I'd try to ID the correct ones. The pan-head screws you show may be right but I still haven't found a document with the part number. The lens doesn't have an obvious tapered seat, so I'm leaning toward a flat clamping face on the screw. The seating face in the lens could take a larger diameter screw head but I had nothing like that in my pile. I ended up finding two of these which are close to yours (#8 x 1-5/8 pan head), just shorter (#8 x 1-1/4 pan head): They protrude plenty far enough to engage the clip: Yours are almost identical to those used on the rear taillamp lenses, but are bright stainless while the taillamp lens screws are blackened stainless. They would also work fine. This one is off my taillamp lens and is carried by AMK: AMK sells something the same size I used (1-1/4) in either bright or blackened SS: https://www.amkproducts.com/bulk-fas...oduct_ID=11453 https://www.amkproducts.com/bulk-fas...oduct_ID=15069 Mike |
