Wonder if any of those cars are still around. It says the car is customized but doesn't say what the customizing consists of, anyone know? If they were all painted a custom color it would make it easier to verify one.

There is information on this giveaway sweepstakes.
I have forgotten most of it - but googling should produce results , or searching on this site.
It's been covered in the past.

I think the young girl who won ordered up a very plain GTO.
Seems like it was actually a 69 model car.
She sold it years ago iirc

I can't remember if she was grand prize winner , maybe just a hardtop winner.

That’s wild to think they gave away 16 GTOs in 1968!

I totally agree.

Also wild that only 1 or 2 of the winners have ever given account of their story.
You would think that at least some relatives or friends would have memory of when so-and-so won a free GTO in 1968.

That's the girl I was talking about.
She won in the contest that those cereal boxes represent , for a 68 GTO.
They errored on the 10 count in that article.
By the time the winners were chosen - the 69's were about to come out soon.
They gave her the option to wait and order a 69 up to the value of a 68 HO Hardtop , if she wanted to wait. And she did wait and ordered a 69 .

She kept it for a long time. Pretty basic car in basic colors - Auto AC PS PDB iirc
