Default Trunk Emblems

For 1970 to 1972 LeMans cars, are there any facts about what trunk emblem was placed just below the trunk key hole? Some are "Pontiac", some are "LeMans" and others have no emblem at all. Were the assembly line folks "off their meds" or something???

I needed a "LeMans" trunk emblem and ordered one on line from a "reputable" supplier and got this dinky, barely 5 inch long emblem that no way fits my vehicle. The factory trunk "LeMans" emblem is 7 to 8 inches long. What gives???

Trying to restore an older vehicle is tough when the factory did arbitrary installs and the aftermarket / restoration folks didn't pickup on the changes they made.

Were there changes between 70, 71, and 72?

Here's my 70 base LeMans (not a Sport). Pontiac logo is centered under the lock. LeMans emblem is on the right side.

I only know 72 Endura front end T41 cars. On these, the only markings on the car are the PONTIAC emblem shown on the middle of the trunk under the lock and PONTIAC in the front drivers side grille.

BN my car is like yours (orange vert w/T41). But, it's a Lemans Sport, that has the Lemans Sport on the rear of quarter panel. My trunk lid still has no emblem after I painted. It was a different lid. I took the old PONTIAC emblem off the old lid and it didn't fit the holes to new lid. I welded filled old holes before paint. Our sponsor her said there was no PONTIAC on rear lid of 72. So, I was at a stalemate. I found they were wrong. Now thinking of just getting one and using 3M tape and sticking on rather than drill holes.

A 72 T41 LeMans Sport convertible had NO emblems on the fenders or quarters (engine callouts on rockers though) , only the PONTIAC across the back of the deck lid

So, you're saying it only said Pontiac in grill and on trunk lid and no other name plate. It seams to me I saw Lemans Sport on rear quarter of them. How would one decipher model then?
