American Autowire sells a redundant frame to motor ground cable for Gen 2 Firebirds (p/n 38855). Anyone have a pic of exactly where this cable attaches to the frame and to the motor? Thanks.

Is it an additional cable to the factory ground cables? If so probably best to ask AAW where it goes. If not, the GM manual will show all ground cable locations.

Factory locations- battery neg to driver side head bolt. Rear of pass side head to firewall. Driver side floor pan to trans bellhousing bolt. Also be sure there is no paint on any of these locations, good clean metal.

That looks like the floor to trans bell housing cable, but hard to tell by the pic. AAW should be able to confirm what/where its for.

Follow up:
Contacted AAW as suggested and talked with a most-helpful guy from their tech dept (Jon Johns). AAW has a large library of service manuals and Jon looked into the one for '78 Pontiacs for me, and sure enough in Section 8 (Chassis Wiring) on page 25 it shows an array of pics with the routings of the redundant ground cables for all the carlines and all the engine combos. It's confirmed that the cable for the Firebird goes from the lower pass side bellhousing bolt over to the pass side subframe. Mystery solved.

I have seen a lot of shifter cables ruined because that ground wire was not installed and it would ground through the shifter cable and melt it. Same guy was too lazy to hook up the ground cable but always had the money to buy a new shifter cable.

It never hurts to have a extra ground.

The Buick dealership where I used to work had within it a Rolls Royce franchise.

It was the only authorized RR repair location for over 150 miles squared. Every single electrical item on all of the RR and Bentley cars have at least 2 grounds.

Rolls Royce cars are made to last a long time, they can easily last for 50 up to 80 years if properly taken care of.
