Agree on fullsize spare originally . It wouldn't have the jack mount tab in the floor , and mat wouldn't be cut out for it.
Jack would go under package shelf with SS.

Window sticker wouldn't reveal , my 73 w/s didn't specify space saver , but was space saver by all witness marks on original mat.
Jack bracket sliced before the splatter coat - no cut out in that bracket area on the mat.
Car was ultra ultra original down to the dated ball joints and flat-spotted head pipes.

Alternator fiasco was done early in the morning before I talked to her later in the afternoon.
Mechanic assisting said "didn't think " it was original - aka he had no clue.
No concerns about recovering the core , stampings not recorded = no clue at all.
It has exited the scenario.

No desires to pull wheels and gather more data points while on the lift.
I ran it by them yesterday while it was still up.

Daughter of original owner is the seller and BaT responder. Nearing 70 y.o.
She was 16 when her dad bought it.
Im guessing her son did the console speakers and 8track reduction.

Has an H-O Racing Specialties SD camshaft.

Silver and Florentine were way too popular on 73 SD Formula's .
I do like Florentine with OxBlood and tried to buy a 455 RA Auto AC LOADED #s 73 Formula with that color group in the late 80s or early 90s. No vinyl top

The Y99 option was part of the Trans Am option, so whatever option on that would not show up. But, on a Formula, the Y99 option will show $167 for full size or $158.60 for Space Saver and $15.00 for S/TIRE OPT. So, TA owners could save money again (if one looks at it that way) like manual vs auto transmissions and Rally II vs Honeycombs.

Cool info on the Y99 prices and SS prices.
So any Formula was standard with SS , extra cost full size spare.

TA no cost alternate on spare.

SD Formula buyers were some hardcore anti-wheel flare people.
I like wheel opening moldings on Formulas. Most probably do not.

No Sunlight Yellow SD in 73. But it was available.

If it's a 74 instead , I don't think they have a breakdown on the Formula colors.
One PY member had a real nice survivor Yellow 74 for a long time.

The alternator might have been damaged - like a cracked ear or cracked housing maybe.
Otherwise I would think anyone would try to recover it.
I told her it was about a $500 core if it was factory. And a benefit back to the car.

her Father was a career jumbo-jet airline pilot .
He wasn't scrubbing pennies when he ordered or while he owned that 73 SD

Definitely a single digit number by color. But unknown.

I don't think they even have a transmission breakdown on 74 SD Formula
Just 58 in total is all I saw in some Google hits.

73 has the colors and transmissions charted totals

They do have the 5th Honeycomb .

She is afraid maybe some things that her father might have kept could have been mistakenly thrown away while cleaning out his garage after his passing.
Such as the original AM-FM and 8track player. MiA
He is the one who upgraded all the audio equipment , and console speakers.

She has some H-O Racing Specialties invoices to post also.

I asked her to share any highlights from her youth about the car with BaT readers.
Day One , any boyfriends that made a big deal out her dad's car , etc

Here is what it looked like after just lacquer thinner wiping off paint remnant.
They have had several sets of eyes on the bare area after some light sanding.
It was on a lift.
Nada

Never seen a Norwood stamp up against the outer edge before.
Just to mention it.

My 73 SD started with a faint strike - then they popped it again and it was a blurred crossed double strike -
then they moved a bit and gave it a 3rd solid smack.
All the strikes were heavier on one end than the other.

I think this is one of the hateful ungrateful units that didn't get its VIN stamp.

I think this SD Formula will find a new owner in the end.
The reserve is not lowball , and the owner isn't strapped for cash.
Can only say - it's not there yet.


The similar car owned in Canada just went back through Mecum again.
80k RNM this time .
I forgot what it went to last time , but it's covered further back in this thread.

Same seller had a Yellow 73 Formula 455 high option that was also RNM last time.
It sold this time in the mid to upper 30s .

Sold for 88k

I don't remember what the drawbacks were on the car.

Looks like a really nice car to me.

I remember seeing it advertised at a classic car dealership in Canada for quite a while. That place had several other desirable early 2nd gen Firebirds as well.
