Changing the dash wiring harness on my 66 GTO convertible, and found some interesting markings....the dash pad (which is still original) has its birthdate written on it. It's faint, but you can make out 3-17-66 (the engine components were all cast on 3-11-66, and the build date on the firewall tag is 03D). 3-17-66 is also exactly 40 years before my wife and I got married lol. The other thing is a piece of masking tape on top of the radio. Among other things, it says "Baggiore 6/6/66," along with what I'm guessing was my parents' phone number at the time. I can't make out anything else. 6/6/66 was exactly 2 months after my parents bought the car new. I asked my dad about it, and he didn't remember anything about it, but it appears there was some warranty work done on the radio in June 1966..

Scott,
Those 60 year old markings are priceless! Going through my folder on my 1966 GTO I found this. I forgot I had these photos. Decades ago I had taken my dash apart (cleaning the gauges) etc. Photos show the two shades of Red (top - flat / bottom semi gloss). Inked date of Dec. 21 ‘65 on inside lip of dash bezel. OEM front speaker that still performs. Data plate for this car. |
