I have front and midplates installed in my car.
I understand that I would need to install torque / limit bars to control forward and backward movement of the engine and transmission... Should the ends ending at the block be connected to solid motor mounts or the regular rubberized mounts at the standard factory block locations?????? I don't want to cause any damage or crack the block. YOUR OPINIONS PLEASE. If I'm not asking too much, can you guys tell me what you did on the block ends of these bars if that's how you handled this issue?????? |

I have steel plates front and mid and one of the red trans mounts with a tubular rear trans cross from Ames. I don’t have a for-aft limiter on my car, not necessary your not gonna flex that much metal ever!

1964 GTO, 488 cubes , 340 cfm E heads by butler 268/276 on 110 solid roller. .440 lobes 1.65 hs rockers. 12.5:1 . Single 4150/1050 cfm carb by ATM. Back half ,ladder bar, foot brake. 8” ati , home made th400 with 2.75 low gear set and 4.10:1 rear. Stock block splayed billet, Eagle forged rotating assembly. 3050 lbs with driver. 9.25/142.5 100 pct home made. Bucket list dream checked off! |

Although it's still in the fab stages I will be using 2 bars, one on each side going from a motor mount hole to a forward mounting point. I'm sure I could be ok with only one bar too. My plates are both aluminum but as mentioned steel versions may not need anything. Also, mine is a tube chassis car which has a lot more real estate available to put the limiters in.

I have a mid plate and elephant ears along with Mighty Mounts. It works great. When pulling the trans ect I just unbolt the elephant ears and mid plate and I can tilt the engine around to get out the trans or headers. Engine still stays where it need to be just with the rubber mounts.

Instead of auxiliary rods and such stiffening ribs can be welded to plates and wouldn't have to be very big to be effective saving mass, And might even be cleaner overall.

My last back half car, I just used a poly trans mount bolted to a tubular crossmember. Aluminum front plate and steel midplate.
