No eth fuel is a good thing regardless, but even it has the same issues with the seasonal additives. I agree with the comments about plastic filter and filter by the tank. You may also want to inspect all the fuel lines too, since it is a new-to-you car. .

Keep in mind what Paul said. The pump circuit holds fuel, even if the bowls have dried up for what ever reason. So a couple pumps of the accelerator will fire the engine with an empty bowl. If you pump the throttle a couple more times after it fires to keep it running that should be all that's needed, the bowls fill up pretty fast.
My guess, as I see this all the time, is you probably have a series of small issues going on compounding the problem. What Steve said is also something I see all too often. People get carried away with fuel filters. All that is needed is the fuel sock in the tank and a filter in the carb. That's it, anything more is overkill and extra unnecessary stress on the fuel pump. |

I plan to get a proper filter to put in front of the carb and remove the plastic filter at the tank. I know mechanical pumps push much better than they pull. There are a few upgrades I plan to do but getting that strong smell of gasoline out of the garage is a priority.

I swapped a Holley on the original barely running 389 in my 65 GTO. It needs to run every now and then to move around the shop and the Holley always has fuel on accelerator pump. The AFB besides evaping the fuel out will shrink the acel pump seal.

Here is the 4" air cleaner side and front shots and one through the scoop. 1&1/2 drop geberic base. Has a 1/2-3/4" adapter on the factory intake with is probably 1 1/4" or so taller than factory so a good inch clearance in addition to subtracting out the spacer just going 3" filter.

Great pictures- seems the GTO hood allows for at least an inch vs a flat hood. Curious what my flat hood Lemans will clear a Torker-2, 1" spacer and 3x14" element.

Turns out the rear bowl had a leak and that's what was draining the rear bowl and stinking up the garage. I changed the gasket and installed a 1/4" spacer. Now I give it a pump or two and fires right up. No more gasoline smell in the garage after a drive. Problem solved and simple fix. Thanks for all the feed back.

It’s so great when a fix turns out to be a simple one.
