Default Front Drum Brakes to Disc Brakes Swap

Well I finally overcame my fear of coil springs flying out and ruining my life lol. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would/could be. Done today except for hooking up the brake lines. Rebuilt the control arms, new everything else. It's been...interesting.

It’s actually pretty easy…..once you get over the fear of decapitation.

Nice work.

Where did you buy the kit? Are you satisfied with the parts, and does it accept 15" wheels?

Ive done it a bunch times, but springs still hink me out every time.

I figure the time when I relax and arent actively frightened while Im doing it is when Ill make a mistake and get hurt. So I'll just stay scared of them.

Why you use a floor jack to support weight undr front end on lower arms till everything unbolted.
Then slowy release floor jack.
Fun.part reverse procedure. Probly more dangerous.
Take time watching springs in pockets.
Don't try moving them by hand with any pressure.
Just saying...

I cant vouch for the brake kit used here but Wilwood has kits with 12.19-inch rotors that will fit most 15-inch wheels.

One example: https://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/Br...temno=140-8582

There's a better/safer way to install them.
I did it this way when I converted the 63 Tempest to 4-wheel Disc and at the same time installed custom +2" Front Coils from Coil Spring Specialties.
I used a tie-rod fork inserted between the opposing wire ropes to tweak the rotation into perfect position.

Pro tip, for most old school front chassis. When needing to get lower control arms off.
Buy one of these.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/29753747393...Bk9SR9i3hofTZw
Take the top clamp and bottom clamps off.
Remove the shock. Put the bolt to the spring compressor down threw the shock hole, place the bottom clamp onto the lower part of the spring and thread the bolt into it.
I just use a 1/2' impact to compress the spring.
Thoroughly grease the threads on the puller shaft.
Easy, but still use safety glasses.

Not a kit. I collected parts over quite a time period. Would have probably been better to buy a kit...
15" wheels fit.
And it all would have been much easier and less painful If I weren't turning 75 this year! IYKYK! Thank you, Lord, that I am still able.

An unexpected benefit when I installed UMI 1" lowering springs is that they're quite a bit shorter than stock. They're way easier to install and remove. I've had to take the front end apart a few times since I installed them and no longer fear the job. When we did the suspension on the Ventura with it's stock suspension I was reminded what a chore it is.
