Mishimoto MMOC-19. 19 row which is about mid size in the range of engine oil coolers. I attached a pic out of the old Herb Adams catalog showing the cooler in his oiling kits. Wix 51515R oil filter, which is coarser filtering and better flowing than the street model 51515.

I’m just looking to get back into HPDE’s so if I can’t make the full 20 minute session, that’s not the end of the world.

I run Valvoline VR1 full synthetic. It can handle a bit of heat and a refill after a weekend a couple times a year isn’t out of the question.

Filter assembly looks great! Realistically, any cooler is way better than no cooler. I think the one used on 427 Cobras was 10-row.

I could add an oil temp gage but then that starts down a rabbit hole where the engineer in me wants to track lots of data!

Here's how I mounted mine to the center horn support bracket. In at bottom, out at top to purge air.

The Mishimoto stack plate coolers are very good, as are the Earl's ones. They can take hits from road debris and stay intact.

I like Nightmare stuff, but I personally would run better fittings. The Aeromotive tapered fittings flow much better, less restriction (true to size passage), and have less of a psi/flow drop. Compare them to others and the difference is very obvious.

It's crazy how much even name-brand fittings neck down in the passage, and it can force you to go up a size. In general, for oil, you don't want to run 90s. If you have to run a 90, run one of the Aeromotive ones (hose fitting), but due to the radius, you may not be able to.

Some headers have a tube that gets very close to the block where the filter housing adapter is, so you need to be careful of that.

Okay glad to hear this is all working for you guys.

I run Doug’s 1 3/4” long tubes. I can’t get a standard sized filter in there due to depth, not width. I’ve been using a smaller LS sized filter. Also one of the reasons for a remote setup.

I should be able to get hoses out of the block without using 90’s.

Photo for reference. The car uses SPC upper and lowers, Hellwig bars, QA1 ProCoils in the front and Global West Cat5 leafs in the back. It needs more tire, but it’s not supposed to be competitive.

Hard to believe Darrin runs those "hard 90" fittings on the remote filter mount.
These are a better deal if you need a 90 and don't have much room. A lot smoother and no O rings to leak, generic Amazon deal. I have a couple on my fuel system and no leaks

Yes, several places offer the 'full flow' type fittings, and the oil system is one place you don't want to skimp.

Some of the 'off brands' are JIC standard fittings, which can at times not thread easily/properly, but as long as you're careful, they work.

Some of the off brands still neck down, or are not tapered, try to look for that too. They are still full flow/true to size, but may cause a touch of turbulence.

Some folks will use a larger size line to make up for some flow, but also have to keep in mind that the larger the line, the large the 'column' of fluid there is, and could cause a pump to provide less volume. If you use an accusump, and you should, with larger lines, it could deplete the volume of the sump before providing full psi.

Another note, since the filter housing bypass is eliminated, you may want to ensure the filter(s) used have a bypass built in. And use a filter that has an extended burst rating.

Moroso used to be the go-to filter, but it's been a while since I've looked at them. Suspect there are others, or just use the 'screen' type. Those too you need to consider flow and burst ratings. You would be surprised some don't meet the requirements, but there again, it's been a while for me.

Definitely oil puking out of the fitting on the rear axle housing. I replaced the open fitting with an Allstar breather kit. See pic attached.

The OE type 'rattle cap' ones are the worst!

Would prefer not spending $500 for a vent setup...

I have a vent setup similar on my Moser 12 bolt. I have the vent mounted on top of the axle where the brake line T sits. While I've never had the car in a lapping environment, it gets beat on. I've never had an issue with it.

Update: new tires are here. Toyo Sport 2. DOT legal, 240 treadwear. Based on tread pattern and reviews, they are expected to perform well on dry and wet tracks. The Falken RT660's that are coming off may not have been a good choice for the possibility of a rainy day. Using the scientific fingernail test, the new ones are way softer and stickier feeling than the 5 year old tires that suffered storage in my garage while I took too long to finish the car.

Next track day is 7 July at Nelson Ledges (Cleveland area). Probably going back to Mid-Ohio in Sept. I'm trying to keep a 2-month break between track days so I have time to address issues.

And I should have some in-car footage next time.

The old asphalt late model i had for a while had a puke can for the Muncie and the Quick Change. Autocrossing with road race slicks i had to make something like the Allstar for my TH350!

Mounted the fresh tires at Mike's shop today. A few observations:

The Toyo tires are very round....no visible runout.

The short stiff sidewalls on the 40-series tires are a PITA to dismount/mount. Not a task to trust to the average low-experience kid at the tire store.

We replaced the rubber valve stems.. Good thing....found that the old ones were dry rotted and one snapped off with hand pressure. It sure would be a scary ride to have one of those fail in a hard corner.

Eric when I used short 23"x10x16 road race slicks my tires guys cussed me the sidewalls were so stiff! And they were experienced tire guys!

Mike added a separate articulating arm to his Coates tire machine. It has an air cylinder and shoe that can press down on the sidewall wherever it's needed and I feel like it saved us an hour over the last time we mounted these size tires. If he sees this post, maybe he can post a picture.

Tires make a big difference in handling for sure. I can remember switching form the Goodyear 255-60-15 Eagles Herb Adams recommended to Comp TA autocross Rs 16"s was a big step in stick, then the 16" road race slicks were another jump! Got to like lateral Gs!!
