Default Early SD heads and intake

Will a 1962 SD intake (9770859) Fit non super duty heads? I was under the impression that the SD intakes only fit SD heads,

That’s what’s called the as factory supplied mid riser 2-4 421 SD intake and I terms of early SD heads it will work / fit the 62-63 heads .

The earlier 991 2-4 intake has a exh heat crossover.

So in terms of early SD heads that intake will work with the 127 and the 980 casting number heads.

The only thing I am unclear on is if the 980 head still oiled through the rocker studs or not.

Those regular production passenger heads have smaller ports and a exh crossover, but the 2-4 Intake will bolt on but the heads will need to get gasket matched to not cause a restriction.

I will dig out my 345 heads later to look at for you and get some dimensions to post, but as I recall the the intake ports on the 177 and 345s are the same width but smaller on the top and bottom, meaning that 2-4 intake will overlap the head on the top and bottom by .060” to .080” each if I had to guess right now.

I will get back to you later, but in the mean time maybe someone else can clear things up for you .

A 859 will fit pass car heads from 61-64 and 127 and 980 SD heads.Might require a small port match. The early 62 heads had a 55-60 water pattern so the 61-62 2x4 991 factory and over the counter intake had a removable freeze plug to allow it to fit early and mid years water patterns.Tom
