Looking for advice. I'm selling my GTO. I have the ad text along with Youtube videos ready.

Where / how would you list it if you were selling? Years ago I bought and sold my street rods on Classics.autotrader.com. Are they still good? Would anyone recommend any of the auction houses? Hagerty Classifieds/Auction, Hemmings/ Bring-a-Trailer? If so, then Reserve or no reserve? Thoughts and opinions?

Personally...I would never sell my GTO without a reserve, unless I REALLY needed $ or if I didn't have a lot into it (not the case).

I would probably start trying to sell with a For Sale sign in the window and drive it everywhere reasonable (and to as many car shows/cruise-ins I could stand). Then hit up the local Pontiac clubs. Then something like Facebook Marketplace or craigslist, just to see the crackpots that respond (and pray for a real buyer).

Assuming none of those avenues worked, I'd probably opt for BAT.

I sell on BAT. It's actually very easy, and if you take good photos, videos and are active in the comment section, the results are usually very positive.

Plus listing is only $100, and no seller premium upon the sale.

I sold a Mustang last August on Facebook Marketplace to a guy who lives a couple miles away. It was easy.

I don't have the ability to sell anything as my extreme hoarder/collector mentality will not allow me to sell anything, but if I did... I would use FB Marketplace!

The last SIX cars/trucks I have purchased have been through FB Marketplace & I can say that I was very satisfied with all of them!

I save the numbers of all the people that say they would buy a car if I ever sold it(not my Pontiac). One of the four was serious, and paid my asking price without batting an eye. I have heard good things about BAT, set your reserve at the lowest price you would sell the car for. I don't use facegram or any of the regular social media sites, so I can't answer about that. I have sold a bunch of cars on Craigslist, just need to weed through the time wasters and scammers. I put in the ad, message me with your phone number and a good time to call, and we can discuss it. I won't email or text. That gets rid of a lot of the BS.

BaT is best and gets the most eyeballs and serious buyers -- find 2 that want it and price goes up! But you need to be super responsive during the auction and be ready to have your car vetted and picked apart. Usually worth it in the end though for desirable vehicles.

I did well with the Trans Am on BaT, no sale on the Lemans. Both cars are not stock. The market seems to be getting softer.

Tripower Nationals are a month away, and it looks like you are 350 miles or so away.

I have always been successful with cruise-ins, and local word-of-mouth. Someone generally knows someone who's brother-in-law's uncle is looking for the exact car.

Did I realize the maximum ? Don't know, but realized sufficient to be happy with the sale, and MUCH easier than some of the other avenues.

FB Marketplace isn't bad. I buy many vehicles listed on FB, but selling can be difficult depending on what it is.

Selling something in the 2k-10k range is a nightmare. Every broke dick comes out of the woodwork wanting it for less, hundreds of messages saying they'll take it only to never be heard from again. It's awful.

More expensive stuff is easier. Guys know what they want, and will spend appropriately. The only issue with more expensive stuff is the morons on car specific FB pages who think everything is worthless unless it's to their standards. I can't tell you how many vehicles I've bought where the poor guy was getting dumped on in the comment section, telling him his vehicle is worth peanuts. I simply direct message sellers, work a deal, wire the cash and call it a day.

So in short, selling a GTO should be much easier than a cheaper vehicle, just ignore the idiots who'll tell you it's worth thousands less than you're asking.

We found the 1968 Firebird we have on Marketplace. I haven’t sold a car on it but have sold a lot of parts that didn’t have much interest other places.
