Anyone venture a guess on what year this is ?

I'd guess late 60s, maybe' 68 or so? Beautiful rifle, 300WM is on the list if I decide to add another caliber to my stable.

That is one beautiful rifle. And like SRGN l think probably mid to late 60s. Many years ago when I was a much younger man I sighted in a 300 mag for an older fellow at the range down in the Ocala National Forest. He had taken maybe 4 or 5 shots at his target and was not even on the paper at 100 yards. I could tell he was flinching pretty bad. I squeezed off 3 rounds that were in a 2 inch group. The rifle was on and with a better rest I am sure it was capable of a tighter group than what I could do. Anyway, I couldn't help but think that this poor fellow needed a caliber that would be much easier to handle. Way over kill for whitetail deer and he would likely miss or worse he wounds the animal and it goes off and dies.

A nice older gentleman at a yard sale is selling it for 550. I was thinking of picking it up just not up but wasn’t sure on price

I think what you are looking at is a Remington BDL series. I had an ADL rifle in 22-250 which would shoot a 1/2" group at 100 yards on a good rest. $550. sounds like a very good price if the bore is in good shape.

Not a Remington bdl..... definitely a Winchester! Definitely an 800- to 1000-gun all day long. If it were close to me, I would buy it! JMTC

Kind of hard to call at small magnification but I’d slso say it’s a Remington 700, the Winchester Model 70 would have a visible “flag” safety on the top of thd bolt shroud. The mushroom cap shape of the bolt shroud also says Remington 700. The stock style is mid-‘90’s with the wedge fore-end tip and skip-line checkering. Winchesters have rounded fore-end tips and plain checkering.

Judging by the small bell size (32mm) and length of the scope, I’d say the scope is older than the rifle. Looks like an older Weaver or Bushnell 3-9x.

Good guns, but some had dangerous triggers that discharged when taking the safety off. You can tell if the trigger was serviced by Remington under the recall, it will have a punch mark on the bolt release button. I have personally observed one go off on its own.

Thanks to all those who actually added relevant info to the rifle in question. I went back to take a look at serial number to date rifle but owner didnt want to bring back out. Someone that day gave him a hard time trying to sell his rifle at the garage sale. In CO you have to go through a FFL dealer and background check even if you buy it at a garage sale. He didnt want to go through all the paperwork and stuff, he just wanted to sell it outright. So had to let it go and move on
