Some things came up this week that prevented me from working on the car as much as I would have liked. But I did get the hood finished... at least for now. I used my DA with 150# and then self-etching primer. Next 2 coats of filler primer. Then 220# with the DA. Finished the tight spots by hand with #320.

The plan is for me to get as close as I can and then turn it over to a body shop.

Next, I will finish the front valence which I have worked extensively on already.

After that, the passenger side, which should be easier than the driver's

Last will be the trunk.

Well, valence is finished. I am very pleased with how it came out because the passenger side was really mashed in. Looks good!

Now I am working on the passenger fender which I put many hours into last year?? Now needs to be finished.

Fender is shaped pretty well... certainly not perfect but I should be able to refine it some more. Currently with 1 coat of self-etching and 2 coats of filler primer. Still need to do guide coat and block. I'm sure that will bring out some imperfections... Anything looks good with flat primer on it

My car was Adriatic Blue and had the remnants of the white reflective D98 stripe on the back of the doors and in door jamb.

Fender is finished. Next will be door and rocker panel. Both will need to be stripped down to bare metal.

Rocker has some dents toward the front and in the part below the QP which had new metal welded in because it was rusted out. Door has a lot of door dings but no rust (I don't think).

Hopefully I can back to this Saturday.

I'm not sure how I did that! I must have had my back to the car and pushed myself up with my hands behind my back.

Anyway, that's the last bit of 71 1/2 GT-37 stripe till the new ones go on after paint because the stripe comes off tomorrow.

I'm hoping to have it painted sometime in the Fall.

I'm curious how you manage the dust. Are you using blocks with vacuum extraction or just cleaning up a lot?

Managing the dust is a continual losing battle! I do have a small dust bag on my DA but much of it ends up in the air and on the floor. Nothing keeps the dust down when I use the flat board for blocking, etc. I try my best to control it by emptying the DA bag and sweeping up but dust is on everything in the garage!

Our washer and dryer is in the garage... so it is not a pleasant thing for my wife when she does laundry. Fortunately, I have a very patient wife!

It helps, knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel. Most of the dust-making part should be done by the end of next month. I will then clean the entire garage.

Got 2 1/2 coats of paint and primer off yesterday. Found no rust in door -- just minor door dent bondo. Rocker panel has old bondo on front side and will need more. Should get rest of paint off tomorrow.

Thanks for the feedback on the dust. I've been thinking about buying blocks with the vacuum extractors. I hook my little DA to the shop vac and with the 3M "net" style discs it's a miracle. The noise is bad, but headphones fix that. Blocking filler has been a different story with a sad ending but it does vacuum up easily.
