What is the front and back of a Pontiac starter?
I would say the bracket is in the front of the starter. :-)

Thank you for taking the time to look up and post the drawing John!

Glad to hear I made a good subconscious decision when I forgot to bolt that back on!

Another "what problem were they trying to solve?" mystery... maybe there was a grounding gremlin?
