Looks Awesome!! I'm also drooling over that space you have to build the car/s... Anyway, looks like it should be ready to drive it out east here to PA next spring LOL  I'll have cooler of cold ones and a full humidor ready for it, when it pulls into my driveway.. Can't wait to see it complete! joe P.S. Don't forget to bring your axe, I have a full studio with my Marshall 1/2 stack in the back yard.... Horsepower & Rock N Roll.. Beautiful together!! |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all of the compliments. This has been a really fun build and having my son involved just makes it super cool. The back wheels are 7 1/2" American Torque Thrust Originals. The fronts are from Rocket Racing. Tires are from HURST being reproduced out in Oregon. Joe, I'm there man ! Bill, The back end is getting a lift. Just a little though. I'm shooting for about another inch or so. I'll still have a rake but just not as extreme. Thanks Brian. I'm doing my best to keep it old school looking. The water pump is a blow it but other than that I'm staying pretty true to what would have been available in the 60's. Now that I'm working on the exhaust I had to make some changes to my original plan. I was going to use my old 40 series FloMasters. But like the Demons I was going to use, it's the wrong look. So I ordered the old school Thrush Turbo Mufflers. Not the welded ones but the old oval ones that are seamed. Pictures in a few days. Bill, Looking very old school and cool

Thanks, I lifted mine up higher as well since that pic, well not really a lift but less sagging. My old leaf springs didn't like the extra pressure from the front end lift so I redid my rear spring packs and added some extra springs. I picked up some narrower cragers for the front and get some nice bias ply on the front for a better look.
I agree with Brian 100%, any nostalgic car should have the correct wheels . I'll admit i'm not the biggest fan of bolt on spindle mount look-alikes but they still look alright. Better than prostars or weld wheels.... If there's any chance your making the journey up to next years Poci nats next year at St Charles, i'll be there for the race day at Union Grove.

10-30-11 I finished the exhaust system today. I've seen where some guys choose to connect the rest of the exhaust system at the collector and 90* back under the car. Or they have an extension with a pipe coming out of the side and turning back under the car. I just didn't want the pipes hanging down.
So I cut a hole into the side of the collector and ran a pipe between the collector and the rear spring mount, then 90* about where the stock exhaust would run. I think it looks cleaner and a little stealthy. I was also going to use my old 40 series Flowmasters but the welded style mufflers just didn't look right. So I bought the old oval, seamed, Thrush Turbo mufflers. I also stayed with the smaller diameter exhaust tubing trying to keep it a bit more period. Then I just made some 1/4" thick block off plates so I can uncork it when I go racing.

What's with the blower case that appears to be aftermarket? You couldn't find a Jimmy cased blower?

The blower is a Hampton 871. He's been casting his own case since the early/mid 60's.

Thanks MisterP. Glenn helped me a lot with all of his build photos. He saved me lots of time trying to figure out how to approach the setup. Though I don't believe my car will be as fast as Glenn's it would be fun to line them up and have a go at it.

Here's a few pictures of both cars together in April before my brother took his 65 back to So Cal. We've both been working on our body and paint getting ready for the Route 66 Rendezvous there. 2 Brothers, 2 Gassers. I'm the short one. Actually, he's 6' 4"
