Great Progress Phil makes me jealous i haven't done anything to the 64 in over 7 months. Time to call the upholsterer and put some time in. Won't be as pretty as yours but i will be happy just to drive it again.

My wife saw the pictures and said "You need to paint your Catalina that color".

Here it is all wet sanded, buffed, and polished. Any imperfections will be dealt with when it's all together. I'm starting to gather pieces from the basement to take to the garage to put on the car. Sue is very happy to see that! LOL

Next up. Trunk weatherstrip and bumpers, reel out trunk light, GP letters on trunk lid, polish molding for tail panel - install moldings - install rear tail panel, install quarter extensions! That should be enough for this week if I can get it done. I'm nowhere near as talented as most of you guys.

If you don't already have this very hard to find oil pressure sending unit, you might want to look for one at Norwalk (NOS or used). I found none of the aftermarket pieces would work correctly on the 65-66 full size gauge packages.

Trunk weatherstrip done. Great ...

Rear tail panel moldings polished out. Awesome. Installed panel but the middle 2 attaching studs not sticking in far enough and the spinning washer nuts aren't getting enough grip for me to get them on and there is a space between the tail panel and the body. ???? I'll get back to it later but any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks

Pics of the issue? If they are the two on the far outside edges, I thought they were alignment pins

I just used the outside nuts first and kept working in and it eventually pulled it in enough to get the nuts on them. Then it snugged up the panel. Looking great.

I wasn't happy with the 50 year old nuts / flanges so I found new ones that are coming in the mail. Then I'll just take 5 minutes and replace them with brand new nuts since they'll be visible to the naked eye.

What a great build thread this is. It already looks really good. A lot of work but it must be fun to get all the pieces together

Hi Phil, hope all is well in your end of the world. Haven't seen any updates on the GP. My own '54 Poncho's motor started hammering, so I parked it and decided after much thought to do what a billion other rodders have done and thats to swap in a SBC. The estimate to rebuild the in-line 8 was $5000 to do all the machine work and final assembly. PLUS, I had to buy the parts. Only kit I could find was $2500 Canadian delivered to my door. So for about $7500 to $8000 I'd have an inline 8 with maybe 125 hp trying to pull a 5500 pound hearse. So for $600 I bought an '86 chebby pickup with a 305 and TH350. Quite the savings I'd say.
Anyway, have a great Thanksgiving Phil.
