255 60R15s on 15x8 4 1/2
I installed a set of 15x8 wheel vintiques with 255 60R15s on my 1970 and 1972 4 door hardtop Lemans. Looks good,

I've got these to throw on the Lemans (and other A & F bodies) with dog dishes when the mood hits me to deviate from stock (stealth mode). These are also 255/60R15's on 15x7 steelies.

Got the PHS
Well, no big surprises here...the options are fairly obvious, and we've listed them pretty correctly. The car does have the pedal trim not shown on the PHS, but it could have been added by the OO. It has the HD Safe-T-Track that comes with the 3.55 gears and the Ride & Handling Pkg with the 1" front sway bar. Head Restraints were a mandatory option it looks like?

I just gotta say its pretty cool we are all discussing a car that didn't get much attention most of its life. I hope the original owner has a big grin on his face wherever he is...

I would have grabbed all kinds of stuff of it in the boneyard , just like the other 4 door creampuffs.
The dash , steering wheel , seatbelts and rear axle would cover about half the cost of the car if something ever happens to it. |

Reproduction 4 door body parts?
I wonder about the feasibilities of repro bodies. body parts?
I recently purchased a set of used 1970-72 4 door hardtop 1/4 panels, I wonder if they could be reproduced? Quote:

Convertible quarter panels haven’t been reproduced yet.
The chances of reproduction 4-door quarter panels being produced is zero. As much as we love these cars don’t let that cloud your thinking.

repro economics
Just wondering about feasibilities- at least of patch panels made from a portion of the 1/4s, such as the sail panels that get badly rusted from vinyl tops.
I wonder what a company as Dynacorn would charge, yes it would be for aat least several hundred, with sales of 2 or 3 sets a year. But just image a low volume production car.

According to the 1969 A-body production counts there was a total of 349 4-drs built with the 350HO (both manual and auto trans) of all models (Tempest sedan, Custom S sedan & hardtop, and Lemans hardtop). Has anyone seen another one? I’m sure most were beat to crap and scrapped.

And those 4-door GTOs are as rare as hens teeth.
Or so I’ve heard. By 1970 the game had changed with Pontiac offering the 340 hp 400 4-barrel engines with the small-valve #16 heads in the Le Mans and I would suppose the Tempest as well no matter how many doors they had.

I remember seeing a 70 Lemans (Sport or Luxury badged) with fender skirts , rally II's a Safe t track 2.78 rear and 400 rocker badges... it had buckets and console automatic with the good ratchet shifter , another oddball in the same wrecking yard I mentioned further back. Cool car today it would have been

Thanks to D. Rustin, a (more) correct air cleaner is now in place. Not sure what the engine(s) the PT code is for, but hoping someone can help us with that (maybe '68/'69 350 HO/400 4-bbl/428 4-bbl, except '69 400 4-bbl GTO). It has to be cleaned up yet but had to 'test' fit it.

Dennis, How Cool. I am really appreciative of this stuff as much if not more than all my "Projects". My son Andrew 27 yo (You've met him) goes absolutely crazy for these 4 doors. He's building his 12,000 mile 65 Post Tempest now with 421 4 speed and always says "only thing that would make it better is if it was a 4 door).
He want to have Fred Simmonds 67 4 door so badly and always hopes he gets the opportunity to have it one day. Mentioned to Jeff D. a couple times but I don't think He thinks we are serious. He is... Great stuff. When he gets home he will flip when he reads and catch's up on this thread. The GR has had some hidden gems over the years. About 2 years back i grabbed that all original Red 67 Firebird 400 Convertible 4 spd. Unreal...people just walked past it. Just like you i managed to get it for quite a bit less than they were asking. Sat there a quite a bit before i was turned onto it. Great Find and love the Passion you and your brother have for it. You are probably making the Wife very very happy to know her husbands car ended up it such great hands. Well Done guys.... Ross |

Thanks Ross! The GR Auto Gallery can get some interesting cars on consignment. That place was absolutely packed when we looked at the Custom S. I didn't know your son really likes 4-dr classics, that's really cool. Fred's OHC6 Sprint 4-speed 4-dr hardtop Lemans is sweet and it's possible he may be able to get it from Fred when he is ready to unload it. Does Fred know how much he likes it? He should let Fred know. His '65 421 Tempest sounds amazing. I'd love to see it when its finished.
The last time I talked to the Wife, she was thinking we were going to finish painting the car that her husband never got around to doing...then, I wasn't thinking that would happen in next several years and danced around the topic, but, last week Scott wanted a filler project to paint while he has a brief break in the paint booth. So now I can visit her this spring with the car painted that she is so looking forward to seeing. Dennis |
