Yes, 1970 saw the XV code 330 hp 400 4-bbl (small valve #16 heads) replace the 1969 350 HO in all non-GTO A-body styles and the XX code 265 hp 400 2-bbl (small valve #11 heads) available along with the 350 2-bbl engine. I have a Tempest 2-dr coupe with the XV 330 hp 400 4-bbl and a Tempest 4-dr sedan with the XX code 400 2-bbl.

I remember seeing a 70 Lemans (Sport or Luxury badged) with fender skirts , rally II's a Safe t track 2.78 rear and 400 rocker badges... it had buckets and console automatic with the good ratchet shifter , another oddball in the same wrecking yard I mentioned further back. Cool car today it would have been

P Larry, that must have been a '72 Luxury Lemans as that is the only year any A-body had fender skirts from the factory. That would be a great cruiser and find today.

Thanks to D. Rustin, a (more) correct air cleaner is now in place. Not sure what the engine(s) the PT code is for, but hoping someone can help us with that (maybe '68/'69 350 HO/400 4-bbl/428 4-bbl, except '69 400 4-bbl GTO). It has to be cleaned up yet but had to 'test' fit it.

It was a 70 though I have the owners manual and protecto-plate and everything .

Dennis, How Cool. I am really appreciative of this stuff as much if not more than all my "Projects". My son Andrew 27 yo (You've met him) goes absolutely crazy for these 4 doors. He's building his 12,000 mile 65 Post Tempest now with 421 4 speed and always says "only thing that would make it better is if it was a 4 door).
He want to have Fred Simmonds 67 4 door so badly and always hopes he gets the opportunity to have it one day. Mentioned to Jeff D. a couple times but I don't think He thinks we are serious. He is...
Great stuff. When he gets home he will flip when he reads and catch's up on this thread. The GR has had some hidden gems over the years. About 2 years back i grabbed that all original Red 67 Firebird 400 Convertible 4 spd. Unreal...people just walked past it. Just like you i managed to get it for quite a bit less than they were asking. Sat there a quite a bit before i was turned onto it.
Great Find and love the Passion you and your brother have for it. You are probably making the Wife very very happy to know her husbands car ended up it such great hands. Well Done guys....

Thanks Ross! The GR Auto Gallery can get some interesting cars on consignment. That place was absolutely packed when we looked at the Custom S. I didn't know your son really likes 4-dr classics, that's really cool. Fred's OHC6 Sprint 4-speed 4-dr hardtop Lemans is sweet and it's possible he may be able to get it from Fred when he is ready to unload it. Does Fred know how much he likes it? He should let Fred know. His '65 421 Tempest sounds amazing. I'd love to see it when its finished.

The last time I talked to the Wife, she was thinking we were going to finish painting the car that her husband never got around to doing...then, I wasn't thinking that would happen in next several years and danced around the topic, but, last week Scott wanted a filler project to paint while he has a brief break in the paint booth. So now I can visit her this spring with the car painted that she is so looking forward to seeing.

If you end up converting to Disk Brakes I have a correct MC and prop valve for that thing for you. Booster is same.

Nice! As much as I think the 4-dr cars are neat, I still prefer the 2-dr coupes like your sons, hands down. Rick V. does great work, so that Tempest is going to be totally amazing when done. I can't wait to see it. It's great to hear Andrew has an awesome job working on high performance euro cars. His heart is still with American iron, so he hasn't gone to the dark side...lol.

You guys have to come on the spring cruise that Jeff organizes so you can let Fred know, otherwise, I'd be more than happy to let Fred know for him.

Either someone added factory skirts in 72 when they were initially offered or it had aftermarket skirts like Foxcraft etc

I could have a memory fail on this car, i can't quite picture if it was a 400 door hardtop also or a 2 door hard top , maybe it it didnt have skirts. If I find the paperwork I saved I will share it at least year ad body style vin code

North, do you know what application air cleaner code (PT) is for? B-body possibly, even though it seems all the '68/'69 4-bbl single snorkel air cleaners appear to be identical...but not sure if this is '68 specific, or '69 specific, or both years?

Take a look at the attachment right out of the 1969 Tempest PMI manual I mentioned. Clearly shows that Air Cleaner part #6485500 is for
a 1969 Tempest w/L76 and D/K45...
Will dig deeper to decipher the last part. but the number on that sticker is your Air Cleaner part number and the PT I believe is a the actual "Sticker" Code.
Either way this is most likely the correct air cleaner

Further info from same PMI (product information manual)
L-76 denotes 350 HO Engine (4-BBL Carb)
K-45 denotes HD Carb-Air Cleaner and Silencer.
So...based on that part number on your air cleaner #6485500 you could not have a more correct part.
Also on previous post showing the AC configurtation it shows a 2bbl carb but that is how the main photos is. Details like back of carb hook up etc are shown separately as different exploded views. That was just to get the idea.

Thanks Ross! This air cleaner has the original paint stamp on it in pretty nice condition. Just a little rust on the lid that has to be taken care of.

It's amazing that D. Rustin had the correct air cleaner that I bought from him last week. Thanks again Doug!
