Yes, I would.

The '63 and earlier Deluxe Microbus had 23 windows, after that and up until last year of production in '67 the split-windshield Deluxe Microbus had only 21 windows (no rear corner windows).

They even made an ambulance version, hopefully you were fairly close to a hospital if you were gravely injured.

Have even seen the delivery vans with an extended roof, they were about 2 feet taller than the standard Type II. I'd hate be caught in a crosswind driving one of those!

I still have my '66 single-cab pickup, have owned it since 1985. Soon to be released from garage prison, so far it has been serving a 22-year sentence.

Wow, I just realized this truck is now 50 years old!

It came with a factory canvas 'Conestoga Wagon' top and I put a set of NOS 'Safari' opening windshields in it. This is a one-ton truck, believe it or not. The bed is just over 5' wide and 8' 10" long with the tailgate folded down, it easily swallows up 4'X8' sheet of plywood.



The 'treasure chest' underneath the bed has an access hatch on both sides, the spare tire is stored on a hanger yoke under the center of the bed at the front. This is a super-versatile little truck to say the least.



Here you can see all the chrome hardware for latching and setting the windshields at pretty much any open angle that you want. The 'Safari' windshields are a real godsend since the side windows only slide open about halfway. The paint inside the cab is the original Velvet Green enamel, the rest of the truck was repainted in lacquer by the previous owner about 35 years ago.

I have a friend who has a 71 Bay window PU that would sell to me, trouble is he's and I would be afraid to park it anywhere for fear of it getting stolen.
I always ask contractors how they like their new trucks and the answer is almost always the same. Drives great but the truck wears me out. New trucks (not 4X4) with the bed rails so high make working out of them so difficult that it seems you need a step ladder just to get up into the bed. If you have something in the front of the bed you need to get out the bedrail is so high you have to clear a way to the back to remove it. Like I said wears you out. VW pick up on the other hand is simple just bring the side rail down and remove. Back in the late 60's early 70's when I was a VW line, and later unit repair mechanic they were so inexpensive to buy. I still have my 1965 Type 1 model 111 1200"A" from HS and my 1964 Type 1, 113 U.S. deluxe I bought later in 1973. The 65 1200"A" is the rare one with the old style pan with no seat tracks and the engine is the last year the 36hp engine was made, and from 63-65 it was a fresh air 36hp! Talk about rare!

I think they're called the Samba Bus. One sold last year for over $100k. They had 23 windows IIRC.

I put them on there in 1989, when 16" wheels were considered 'big'. No adapters, just machine work and some luck (along with converting to '71 Type II front discs and a rear '70 Type III IRS conversion from the original Type II swing-axle suspension) made them fit.

They're 16X8.5" 1984 'vette wheels with 205/55-16s stretched over them. It's lowered about 3.5" and does handle very, very well too.

Dang shame they can't build things that make sense like this anymore. Way to many people buying trucks that don't "use" trucks, so they end up being more pretty than they are useful.

I forget the actual name of that roofline but it was the standard for all but the Sport version. The sport version was more of a fastback style that didn't have the over hang like the base sedan models. 61 was the only year it came like that. Didn't Pontiac have a similar version in 61 called the bat wing? or something like that.

Pontiac folks called it "batwing". At least I heard that back in the day vs bubble top.

The nickname was the batwing, but the correct term is 2dr. sports sedan.

Heres a couple I ran across yesterday on the internet. The tan GTO is in Walterboro, SC. I don't know the name of the strip. The blue GTO is at the now former Blaney Drag Strip in Elgin, SC. That land is now a trailer park with Street names like Gartlis Dr., Liberman Way, Ivo Circle and Platt Dr. I know you will recognize these names. They all raced there back in the day.

Looks like Chevrolet Rally wheels?

Here's a photo of a 1964 LeMans coming off the Fremont CA assembly plant line, and it too had a painted beige/gold top.

1964 RED F-85 or cutlass 4 dr.- you can tell it's a 4 dr. because it has a concave backlight "C" pillar
