I looked at the link. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Bruce called the Ventura a street car. I live in the Inland Empire only a few miles from Bruce. I have gone to many, many shows and cruises all around and never saw that car anywhere other than at the track. And during that race, Didn't Bruce have slicks on the car? Hmmmmmm
I ran the same Tires that Dave ran and just because they're big doesn't mean they hook. I went from 10.70's to 10.08 switching from the Sportsman Pros to Slicks. Anyway, I spoke with Andy at the Pontiac Heaven event last year. He told me the story about the race a WHOLE LOT DIFFERENT than the version Bruce wrote. In fact, Andy told me that he personally apologized to Dave for what Bruce wrote because it isn't true.

[QUOTE=hurryinhoosier62]OK guys and girls,
I have personally Align Bored over 1,500 engine blocks from 4100 series Cadillacs to 12V-149 Detroits. I,ve probably Align Honed 3times that many. Friend of the family bought a Fleetwood new in 1982. What in the hell was GM thinking when they dropped a 125 hp small V8 in a 4200 + car ?? Those early Caddy 4100s were model P.O.S. Off the subject guys, but I really hate those damn engines. I still see mint 80s Caddys up for sale (cheap) with bad 4100s.

The old switcharoo huh ? That's interesting. I have a friend that had recently spoke with Bruce about a 428 crank. Appearantly my friends crank was junk. Bruce told my friend that he would sell him a crank for $1,200. The FUNNY thing is that Bruce told him he would knock off $200.00 if my friend gave him his JUNK crank.
I'm no genius but I don't think scrap prices would give more than about $5.00 to $10.00 for that weight in scrap metal. Some people just don't listen. Doesn't that sound strange to you ? GET REAL PEOPLE!!!! It's time to send your letters to POCI. You are the only people that can end this.

I sometimes laugh at what people define as a street car - seen some that had no wipers, heater, 5000 stall converter, scraped the ground, no rearview mirrors, radio, etc.

455Grandville,
They never asked me if I WANTED to Align Bore the@$%**& things. It would have been better to turn 4100's into beer cans; wait a minute, didn't they turn used beer cans in to 4100s? Try Align Honing one. You have to install torque plates just to keep the mains within .002. Another "quality"product of the Roger Smith era @ GM. |

As good as the Pontiac Iron Dukes were (they were good 4 cylinders in my book, gutless but good engines) it was highly reccomended that you use a torque plate when honing it to finish size the bore, because they were flimsy.

Here's another good one I heard last night at a local cruise.
I took the Ventura down. Someone showed up with a 65, 4 speed, 400 that sounded sweet. Nice cam. So we're talking and he asked if I had ever heard of Rock n Roll Engineering. Need I say more ? So he tells me he went there to get a pushrod guidplate. He said he listened to the biggest line of crap he had ever heard in his life, but had to because he hadn't got the guidplate yet. In the BS'ing Bruce told him that he GUARANTEED the guy would blow up his engine if he didn't trade the #16 heads on the engine for a low compression set that Bruce had. Probably small valve and would for sure need hot tank, new valves, seats, guides, surface, springs, retainers, locks, oh and pull out the press in studs and tap for new screw in's. Don't you agree ? You wouldn't put a used set of heads on a good running engine, Would You ? Guys, Come ON !!! Please send your letters into POCI, the BBB and the BAR. You are the only ones that can stop him from ripping off other innocent people.

You wouldn't put a used set of heads on a good running engine, Would You ? Ive machined engines for years, I hate hearing the "looming and dooming" line of BS - Ive seen engines run completely out of oil, and not have a rod knock (no I dont advise it) . My ex girlfriend years ago had a old 302 Granada with a bad wrist pin (after it would heat up it would stop knocking) she drove it through 4 years of college, and another year afterwards & then traded it. Ive seen timing belts break at 50xxx miles and others go 220,xxx + miles. You never know - First off,how would he know if the engine were to blow up ? Being its a 40 yr old car the engine has most likely been rebuilt,soooo how would he know it doesnt have low compression pistons ? Also, you cant judge the compression without CCing the heads - hell, no one can say every 6X head (for example) had a say, 98 cc's. Hell, at the factory they have to adjust machines, cutter wear, you can have a sloppy operator, etc, so the CC's could be even more , like 105 cc's. How much down in the hole is the pistons ? How thick is the head gasket ?

If a piece of buttered toast was attached to the back of a cat, when dropped, the cat/buttered toast combination should hover, spinning just above the ground, as it tries unsuccessfully to resolve the inevitable conflict of non-scientific certainties. |

I hope you guys do something about this ass. I'm too young to get into all the legal stuff, or even help really. Thankfully I've never purchased anything from this guy. And to think I was actually thinking of buying an engine from him!
Good luck takin him down. |
