Hey Guys,
We'll be able to get lots more data when car-show season starts up again.

The EUN, VIN, and build date are all easily seen if the hood is open.

I keep thinking back to what Old Pinion Head had to say:

"Will say this... maybe you too, should have started writing the casting dates, assembly numbers, & body build & plant numbers down in the mid to late 80's. Not just numbers off the rarer engines & cars, but if hardcore into late 60's & early 70's Pontiacs, the numbers off nearly every original '67-72 Pontiac one ran across. By doing so one has a clearer view of what Pontiac did."

We will figure this out!

Wink observation on PHS

Here's an observation on PHS documents. I have some that were retreived in the early days (ie. I think, before PMD farmed it out to PHS). 74 SD-455 Formula, purchased Apr. 90, PHS with car. 69 RA-III conv purchased Aug 91 PHS with car. 69 RA-III judge HT, purchased Mar 92, PHS with car. All of these invoices have certain information blacked out. I recently (within the past two years) requested PHS on another 74 Formula. The invoice had nothing blacked out. However, column #5 & #10 were blank (white) or originally never contained any information. In addition, on the bottom of the invoice it had the H/P 54.3 (horsepower I assume) and weight 3720, which none of the earlier PHS documents contained. Maybe we are getting more from PHS than we used to! One of the pieces of information left uncovered on this later document is "74G1" & in the next column "36F3" (top row 4th & 5th box) The print on these boxes is too small and blured to read. Does any one know what these numbers mean? On another thread, (pop quiz) $105.32 seems to have been a popular dollar amount with the accountants at PMD. power windows 551 $105.32, power steering 501 $105.32, & Memo 2-38 Spec Eqpt. $105.32.

"74G1" & "36F3" are the original key codes. I have seen them on '70 and '71 PHS docs but I just looked at my '69 docs and the boxes are blank and not labeled.

This is an example of the pre PHS invoices from Pontiac Motor Division which was free on 69 and later models. They blacked out and omitted quite a bit of the info. I think PHS got the stuff in 89 or 90.

I have begun crunching some numbers, in particular for the 9790071 cast blocks. I am trying to get an idea if the EUN corrisponds with the number of business days, in between each example in John's collection. I am trying to see if there is a ratio of blocks produced and EUNs assigned per a given business day. (e.g. How many were produced per day, and what would be the EUN range be per that given day).

The problem...I have no idea what the engine plant/foundry (s) business day schedule was, when shut down was, and what days were given off for Holidays. Anybody have that information for 67-69?

Without it, it will be pretty hard to get as specific as possible...

Once there are enough engines listed, you should be able to lay them out on a calendar and get a rough idea. Using all the castings to find out about weekends and holidays.

Default Pontiac plant

From late 67 until mid 71 I worked, as a vendor, in and around the Pontiac Plant, (Foundry, plant #9) Pontiac Engineering, (Joselyn) the old (Oakland Ave.) and new admin building, Fisher body plant (Baldwin St.) & GM Truck & Coach, (South Blvd.) & even GM Proving Grounds in Milford MI. Pontiac was making lots of cars in those days. I remember a few strikes, picket lines etc. But, I don't have a clue about how many days a week, hours per day, overtime etc. I wish I had taken some pictures or made notes.

Well, hopefully like Steve says...when there is more data (probably a lot more)...patterns of work schedules should become evident. I gathering any an all that any of us can find will be benificial in the long run...I know I will be watching for examples to enter into the DB.

Thanks to all involved so far in an effort to make this data more available!

I'm not picking on anyone in asking this question, I'm just curious.

What is the purpose of concealing the VIN in this forum or net in general?

Built at Baltimore. My PHS invoice looks just like the one that BVZ posted above...

Interesting. 10 or 15 years ago a guy that knew about my car (Alan Nagl - know him?) ran the PHS on it to find out if it was a real Judge -- he brought me a copy, and it looks like yours. I ran mine again last month and got the version with prices and the key codes intact.

I got this one back around 1991 free from Pontiac, key codes and prices marked through.

Personally, I see no reason to conceal the VIN. The VIN is visible anytime you take the car out (for dinner or at cruise night).

In order to sell a car on ebay, the VIN must be listed.

Maybe there are valid reasons to conceal I'm unaware of???

If the car is registered, it's a matter of public record. And what you said about taking the car out for dinner or cruise, it's right there for everyone. So what's the point of trying to hide it in here?
