78 Days 'til Dayton. This weeks progress: The engine compartment is done, except A/C hoses and pipes. Still haven't found a source for custom made pipes. Installed the rocker moldings and front wheel well trim. That means I'm not moving the fenders again. Dick, you were totally right about the rocker molding to fender fit. What a pain. Still not perfect, but as good as I can get it and I moved everything for a third time trying.
Next one I put together, I'll start with the fender fit at the rocker and build the front end to that. Headliner should be in next weekend, then I should be able to get the rest of the interior in pretty quick. I'm not very far from firing this thing up. Ordering my custom driveshaft tomorrow, after its in I can fill the trans.

I don't believe I've ever seen that color on a '64. It's my new favorite...and it works on the wheels too.

Yeah nice, i really like the redlines and painted rallys. What paint did you use on the inner fenders?

I believe it was based on rustoleum in a quart.

I used the quart sized Rustoleum for my firewall in a floorboards. Not sure what your friend's recipe was but the instructions on the can suggest thinning it 20% with acetone...if I recall that part correctly....so, that's what I did.

71 Days 'til Dayton. Today's progress, the headliner and package tray are in. Still need to cut the hole for the rear defroster. And now I can schedule the glass install to finish up the outside. I'm getting there.

Ron,
You did a GOOD job on that headliner. Bet you're glad that's done! Ask me how I know? Charles |

Thanks, but I didn't do the install. I paid an upholstery guy to come to my shop and put it in. I learned that lesson years ago. Reminds me of one of my favorite Clint Eastwood quotes: "A man's got to know his limitations." I installed a headliner myself years ago and told myself never again.

69 Days 'til Dayton. Today's progress, another accessory installed. I got my reel out trunk light parts back from the plater today, reassembled the light, tested, and installed. One more thing off the list and a little more bling on the car.

64 Days 'til Dayton. Spent today fighting the Tremec shifter, shifter porch and console. Still doesn't quite work. I will not be able to use the 64 shifter plate with this shifter. I'll need some type of boot. Once the shifter porch is done I should have smooth sailing to finish the console restoration and the interior shortly after. The seats are built.
Experimented with a couple different paints for the jack. The base is painted with the two shades of blue shown. I'll be using the safety blue sprayed on the right half.

Original console or repro? My original isn't too bad,but next to my newly rechromed shifter it looks like crap. I have seen the plastic repros and they are really nice. I think i might try one,i was quoted about $900 to rechrome mine.

Original 64 console. Rechromed. I'm using the die cast repop door and door frame. Yes, it's crazy money to have one rechromed, but I want to make the 64 console work for this car. If I couldn't make the 64 top plate work with the shifter, I might have gone with the plastic one.

50 Days 'til Dayton. Finished the shifter porch. Ended up being a bit of a kluge, but it works. Using a later model boot and plate. This all works with the 64 console. Got the door panels in. Rear seat, carpet and belts. Painted the console parts. Did the console box and lid flocking today. Interior is close to done. Next pictures should be with the console and seats in later this week.
