It just occurred to me that if you are successful in getting the water pump built to better specs, all my divider plates I have altered won't work with the new unit.
![]() In a more serious vein (pun intended), setting a short impeller at the right depth will leave quite a void behind it. This probably isn't much better than too wide of gap in front - at least we can hammer in the plate and arrive at a proper clearance. Best solution is still a thicker impeller with deeper veins.

getmygoat makes an important point - speaking from first-hand experience, small companies feel small upticks in commerce far more than big companies do.
Here is an idea: Research local rebuilders near you. For example, I will research local rebuilders in SE Wis ... BTW, I am talking about an hour's effort to compile who is somewhat near me. Now, if YOU do the same thing and save your results, we will have a listing of companies around the USA that rebuild water pumps. Then, divide the map up in sections (by state or ??) and pick the most willing/promising rebuilder in each area. Have that rebuilder do it the preferred way and promote those shops are the where-to-buy shop. ...does that make sense to you guys? (It does to me but I may be nuts) Small shops respond to small blips.

Refer to post #5, unfortunately this is working about like I thought it would, however I see no one has thrown in the towel and this kind of perseverance is exactly why the Pontiac Nation has what we have today as far as parts for our old cars and engines. We never quit, just pick a different path to our final destination, keep at it guys, someone, somewhere will fix this problem for us.

The problem is that we have no idea what that new part number is, nor do we know what's happening with their production line. There are things going on at Cardone that the general public does not know about, and those of us that do know gave our word we would not say anything. I'm not about to break that trust and see what progress we have made get flushed down the toilet. We were given a certain time to call and check with them on the situation. And as of now there are only 2 of us still working with them to see this to the end.... good or bad. Now if Gary B. can get someone else involved in rebuilding pumps with the correct impeller, that's a plus for us all. But know too that we also need the correct divider plates. Not these stainless steel pieces of junk you have to beat on to get the correct gap. Pontiac never beat on theirs, so why in hell should we have to.

GENTLEMEN,
Trying to come up with a VALID part # for the water pumps that we may be able to find the GM specks of the impeller and/or divider plates. So far we have come up with "9788609, PUMP ASM., water-w/gasket for P8/T8 1963-1967", but cannot find the data we need. Does anyone have any other source to reference this info with part #'s to search for???? Charles |

GENTLEMEN,
Spoke with "rockdoc" last evening and he advised me he had procured a Cardone pump from Rock Auto with the CORRECT impeller. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,2208 http://www.cardone.com/Products/Prod...ear=1967&info= Seems Cardone has a NEW pump that came out called "CARDONE Select [New]-Part Number: 55-11137. Dave is going to post pictures when he has time, but he is on the road just now. I thought some of you may need this info ASAP. Charles |

I know one thing. Cardone needs to show a profile shot of these pumps so the shape of the impeller can be seen by customers. Straight on shots of the front and rear with an angled shot of the pump tells us nuthin.
The same goes for any other pump manufacturer.

A bit OT. I just scored a water pump and divider plates out of a 66 Catalina with a seized engine this morning. It's been sitting for years, how many I've no idea. This is one of those screwed up replacement pumps. Vanes are not correct as there's a 1/4" gap between them and the divider plates. Could be one reason the engine seized up.... they ran it hot until the engine gave up. There's another 66 sitting there but I couldn't get to it with all the brush around it. Actually I couldn't even see the car. LOL
This pump has PH 262 on it and nothing else. So I've no idea where it came from. At least the divider plates are reusable....and are the same as the ones in my 66 GTO. The back plate has the notch in it.

I did find that out today that Cardone does have the rebuilt 8 bolt pumps with the correct impeller. All we need is the correct part number from them in order to get them thru NAPA. That is coming soon I hope, as the person 'in the know' up in Philly is on vacation and will be back... I was told... on July 5th.
I'll also be looking into the correct 11 bolt pump when I talk to them again. I'm going to also see if they will copy and make the 8 and 11 bolt divider plates to sell. They have plates for both if they haven't lost them. Paul and I both gave them divider plates to use along with pumps and timing covers. Cross your fingers that next week we hear something positive from Cardone.
