That Promo shot was two fold.
Showing the 11,000.000th Pontiac [an OHC 6 model to boot  ] and showing how strong the new seat-belts were. Remember a large % of the buying public still wasn't sold on the idea of seat belts and the auto makers new '67 was going to be the must install them year.

Any Reds fans here?
Pontiac often advertised on the scoreboard at the old Crosley Field from at least 1959 thru 1968. Found a website with Crosley Field pix showing a Pontiac ad from '59, '60, '67 (showing a Firebird), and this one from '68. This pic is from Game 1 of a doubleheader on June 9, 1968. Cards fans will love to know that the Cards rallied for 10 runs in the top of the 5th (just underway in this shot) and won the game 10-8. Near as I can read, the caption for the ad of the '68 GTO says, "If you had a GTO you wouldn't have to leave early." For baseball fans of the '60s, the box score for the game shows several greats. Steve Carlton was shellacked for the 8 runs, leaving with 2 out in the 4th. Catchers were Tim McCarver and Johnny Bench. Roger Maris pinch hit and doubled in the 5th. Lou Brock closed out the scoring with a 3 run homer with 2 out in the 5th. Pete Rose was hitless. Wasn't all bad news for Cincy fans that day, the Reds did take Game 2. |
