What is "PHP" documentation? LOL
Good looking car. Personally, I wouldn't ever buy a car that even slightly smelled of a rebody. In my book, that is just sick and wrong. Its too bad someone put all that labor and effort into the car for the sake of making a profit. Still, a gorgeous car. And a good deal for someone who doesn't care. |

Wow, for a minute there I was excited, I was ready to sell my Project 74 SD, now am not so sure.
Car does look real nice and clean, and someone did spend lots of dough on it. Is it a # matching car other than the tranny? vin does looks iffy. rebody by any chance? CA. only buyers? that throws a red flags up to me. Anybody knows the history of it? |

It is an HO Engine ...

I'm glad it is an HO engine, but I have a couple of questions;
1. Is that the original engine VIN stamp? I have never saw one like that. 2. Did Pontiac cast a framed area on the front of the block for placement of the VIN ID on '72's? I don't own a '72, so now I'm wondering! The boxed recessed area, the spacing and alignment of the alpha/numeric VIN are not what I would expect to find. I'm pitching it out to you guys who own '72 TA's. It's a pretty car, a little incorrect here & there, but who cares, still very nice. The question is...is it 40,000 dollars pretty? If that is the original engine, I think it is. I wouldn't mind driving it.

I've never seen a vin stamp like that on any 72 Pontiac. I very highly doubt it's the original engine. It may be numbers matching, but not the born with engine. Sometimes people go crazy with the verbiage and claim ignorance.
Think about it, if that was a true numbers matching Blue/White 72, it would be going for a lot more than that. |

1. It was 16K more last year
2. I'll Guess that the stamp was done in almost cured JB weld over a grinding, or over the original, the cast looks thick. The impression of the edge of the stamp made the surrounding "border". The original CMT stamping tools that were used never had a holder like that, I know I have held and used one for warranty work, etc. 3. Looks like a nice fun car if ANY vin can be verified on the firewall, and would cost more to build a car this nice from a shell, than its asking price.. so from a Turn the key value standpoint, its cheaper than building a tribute car ( Ho T/A) and could be a lot of Fun...

To answer the next question about why I would have used one for warranty work, the answer is simply CORVETTE.... Those folks get a replacement block/engine and want their Vin on it..yup, even those small block Chevy's !

Thanks Bruce, that cleared up a lot for me. You sir, have a lot of experience and know how. I don't understand why go to the trouble to mask over the existing HO block. Heck, entire clone cars come within 10-15K of a true #'s matching car in today’s market. This is at least a real Trans Am with a real HO engine. Why risk being arrested for fraud when it's already worth what you are asking while telling the truth.
I think it's probably worth close to 40K. I would just state the obvious and sell the car. Most people don't care or would even ask anyway. They aren't sick like us .

Newly painted honeycombs on a barn find with trim rings in the trunk. Do you think the original rally's were kept?
