The EGO does not leak oil while sitting or while working.
I guess its pretty close to all-around perfect by design ... and a damn Headlight too My friend thought the built-in light would be a gimmicky/sketchy kind of thing. He was wrong It didn't flicker or dim one bit while cutting On high its really more light than you need and you're just showing off doing that. lol He was flabbergasted by the whole experience of a serious battery saw |

"...The metal adapter piece is the only thing special and it will interchange into any of the other bars , with just one phillips screw.
The 12" Craftsman bar, 14" EGO bar, and 18" EGO bar will all interchange just by adding - or removing - the adapter..." Thanks for that info ! Hey, you could have a shorter, lighter saw, but with all the power & other features of the CS1800 saw. And, if you use a 2.5Ah batt, it would be even lighter, but still have plenty of power, just for fewer cuts. Sounds like a Musclecar to me. Big power, in a smaller, lighter package. I like it ! Gonna definitely keep this in mind. |

I was a little off on the chain speed numbers i posted earlier.
Here are the real numbers i had posted way earlier in this thread previously. EGO 18" 56v = 30.2 mps or 99 feet per sec {11,000 rpm motor shaft} Echo 16" 58v = 22.5 mps or 74 feet per sec EGO 14" & 16" 56v = 20 mps or 66 feet per sec {6800 rpm motor shaft} WEN 16" 40v = 15 mps or 49 feet per sec KingKobalt 80volt must be around 110+ feet per sec It's noticeably a bit faster than the 99fps EGO running them side-by-side. By the pound = 18" Kobalt 80v with 5.0 batt = 17 lbs 18" EGo 56v with 2.5 batt = 12.2 lbs """"""""""""""with 5.0 batt = 14 lbs 18" EGo with 14" Bar&Chain and 2.5 batt = 11.8 lbs The EGO will be real versatile with the different batteries and different bars. .. oh and the Headlight I don't really need the 20volt Craftsman 12" at all, but for $45 just can't say no to it. And i think it looks good too. Putting a 14" bar on it and will let it do as much as it can handle. |

40v Kobalt 12" Bar
Got my recall replacement saw body. Will post pics tomorrow.
I wanna buy a new 12" bar for it. Don't want a 14" or 16". Trying to find the cheapest decent 12" bar that will work. The chain is 3/8" low profile, .050 gauge, with 45 drive links, and the bar mount looks to be the AO41 style. . Been looking online. To me, it LOOKS like the 12" Dewalt bar will work. I have one I can try. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-1...E&gclsrc=aw.ds Also looks like this Oregon 120DGEA041 bar will work. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oregon-120D...75.c1#viTabs_0 https://www.amazon.com/Oregon-120DGE.../dp/B001SCU3GK How about this Husky bar ? https://www.amazon.com/Husqvarna-531.../dp/B004MW3PZY Here's an Oregon bar/chain combo. But I've got 5 chains coming. Don't need the chain. https://www.amazon.com/Oregon-27792-.../dp/B000R8BDGA Anybody know which of these will work & which won't, & which is the best and/or cheapest ? Any other decent choices worth mentioning ? Last edited by ponyakr; 11-24-2020 at 11:58 PM. |

Are you certain the saw calls for .050 chain gauge ?
Or is that just the size of the new chains you ordered ? The Kobalt 12" replacement bar is .043 gauge @ $20 Most of the smaller saws are .043 But yours is a 40volt I'd go for the Husqvarna bar if .050 was usable. The colors are better than the others |

"...Are you certain the saw calls for .050 chain gauge ?..."
That's what my search turned up, when I needed my 1st replacement chain for it. An Oregon s45 or 91PX045G was recommended. I didn't see much difference. So I ordered the s45. Easier to remember. Worked just fine. But it's getting pretty dull now. https://www.oregonproducts.com/en/pa...%5D.value=true https://www.loggerchain.com/Kobalt-5...-Kobalt-12.htm https://www.amazon.com/Oregon-Chains.../dp/B00O2DKZK6 But, I'm glad you mentioned it. Looks like the Dewalt 12" does take the .043 chain. Oregon 90PX045G or R45. https://www.oregonproducts.com/en/pa...%5D.value=true So, if the Kobalt will accept the Dewalt bar, I suppose I'd need the .043 chain. I just pulled up a forum where they said you could run the .050 chain on the .043 bar. That don't sound right. I don't have a clue. "...A regular . 325 050 chain WILL work fine in a narrow kerf bar. You just can't do it the other way (i.e. run a narrow kerf chain on a regular bar)..." Likewise, I suppose that if the Dewalt saw will accept the Kobalt bar, I'd need the .050 chain. Might see if that will work & how it cuts, when the new chains come in. Have read that some small saws use the .043 bar/chain so that it will take less power to cut thru the wood. But, the Kobalt seems to cut OK, with the .050 chains. Hey, it's just another of the many things I didn't know about chainsaws. Oh well, at least I now I know a little more than I did before I started all this. Last edited by ponyakr; 11-25-2020 at 09:43 AM. |

Bar and Chain gauges should be matched, at minimum.
A lot of saws will allow either gauge size of Bar/Chain to be used, it depends mostly on the design of the drive sprocket. If the drive sprocket has shouldered or raised flanges concealing the sprocket teeth, a lot of times it will only allow an .043 - IF .043 was the spec. If the drive sprocket is open (no shoulders) you run can either size gauge of Bar/Chain. They shouldn't even offer 2 gauges, but supposedly it reduces enough rotating mass to make a difference somehow. Probably just in no-load chain speed numbers. On a 12" chain - the difference is probably less than half an ounce. You can use feeler gauges to try to check gauge sizes and tolerances. Like measuring a spark plug gap Even the 14" and 16" EGO saws come with .043 Bar/Chain 18" EGO comes with .050 Bar/Chain But the Bar/Chain combos can be switched together on any of them. My 12" Crafter probably uses .043 , since TJ's Dewalt is .043 Which bar did you decide to buy ? Does UpStart offer 12" chains in .043 ? If you're going to have three 12" saws , it would be cool if they all used same chain. TJ might need a new bar on her Dewalter down the road to save money on chain if those UpStart chains prove good. |

On the Bar & Chain subject -
KILLER DEAL on 16" Bar & Chain Combo Kits by Oregon - .050 gauge $14 at HomeDepot and Walmart ! Free Shipping too That is a ridiculous price but its for real , right now. They are $36 at Lowes and other retailers just 16" Oregon Chains by themselves are more than $14 most everywhere. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Oregon-S...7857/203614149 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Oregon-27...bo-16/19241223 I went ahead and got one for my EGO to complete the chain selection. Will paint it black and maybe put a decal on it to spruce it up. |

I know you don't want to maybe,
but you could spring for that 16" Oregon Kit @ $14 to put on that 40v Kobalt replacement - and TJ could have her own 40volt 16" to match against your new WEN 40v 16" . That might be cool It would probably weigh less than 10.5 lbs with 16" upgrade Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 11-25-2020 at 02:33 PM. |

Recall Replacement
We can't tell any difference, whatsoever, between the 2 saws.
I checked out the 12" bars this morning. The groove in the Kobalt bar is obviously wider than the groove in the Dewalt bar. The .050 chain won't fit in the .043 groove. That makes perfect sense. Both bars have the same A041 type mount. Both chains have 45 links. I laid the .043 chain on top of the .050 chain. Looked exactly the same length. Only differences I could tell was that the part of the chain that fits in the bar groove is narrower, & the cutters are smaller. So, I put the Dewalt bar/chain on the Kobalt saw, & the Kobalt bar/chain on the Dewalt saw. The Kobalt saw cut OK with the Dewalt bar/chain, & a little better than with the Kobalt bar & the current well used chain. But, TO MY SURPRISE, the Dewalt saw cut better/faster with the Kobalt bar/chain, than with the Dewalt bar/chain. Just to be sure, I put the Dewalt bar/chain back on the Dewalt saw & cut off another slice. Was noticeably slower. Now I know that don't make any sense. And I'll do some more testing, when the new chains arrive. As of right now, I have to assume that as long as the saw has enuff power to turn the chain, the bigger cutters of the .050 chain just remove more wood, faster. Looking forward to doing more testing along these lines. With the info I have now, I THINK I MAY end up running an .050 bar/chain on the Dewalt saw. I suppose the thin chain might be better if we were trying to cut bigger stuff. But the dull .050 chain buzzed right thru the 2" live limb I was cutting cookies off of. Not planning on cutting anything bigger than 4" with that saw. Most will probably be well under 3". With all this in mind, I just ordered an Oregon 120DGEA041 bar. It should fit all 3 of our 12" saws, using the .050 gauge chain. Cheapest price I could find was just over $20, with tax. https://www.ebay.com/i/184543236348?ul_noapp=true |

Cheap Bar/Chain Deal
"...KILLER DEAL on 16" Bar & Chain Combo Kits by Oregon - .050 gauge
$14 at HomeDepot and Walmart ! Free Shipping too That is a ridiculous price but its for real , right now..." Thanks for that tip ! Checked the Oregon site. That will fit my WEN 16". Great price ! I just ordered one. If I had more money right now I'd order several. Since that s56 chain is 3/8" LP & .050 gauge, and the bar has the A041 style hook-up, I assume it will also work in our other saws, if I wanna try it. Just happened across this. Don't know the quality. But Wal Mart shows a 2-pack of bars for my WEN, for $24 + tax. They're the same brand as the chains I ordered - UpStart. https://www.walmart.com/ip/2-Pack-Re...ooth/670231470 Again, these should fit our other saws too. Really surprised me to stumble onto that 16" $14 bar&chain deal, initially at Walmart. I googled to cross-check the part number because Walmart actually pictured a 14" Kit on their listing. And got a hit for HomeDepot at the same price, with the right picture. I thought it was just going to be a flub-up altogether by Walmart for just a chain at that price. Glad the tip helped . Probably be hard to buy just an Oregon 16" chain at that price with free shipping. Great info from your cutting tests on the .043 vs .050 Keep us informed as it goes along. I just put a 14" .050 Craftsman Bar&Chain Kit "upgrade" on my 12" 20volt Craftsman. It was .043 from factory like TJ's Dewalt. I haven't cut anything with it yet in either combination. Might put those 2 combos to a test like you did, and could even throw the 14" .043 EGO Kit into the test too. But all that will have to wait another week or two probably. |

Ordered one of those 22" Husky Toolbox $15 from HomeDepot this morning to see if it will fit any of my saws to convert it into a Chainsaw Case.
Free Shipping on it too - wow Hoping it will fit for the Craftsman and EGO https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-22...6573/203431526 The 18" Kobalt is about definitely going to need the larger 24" Dewalt Box @ $22 https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-2...-202710560-_-N Way earlier in this thread i posted about a guy who made one of the Husky Toolbox's into a chainsaw case for his 14" Ryobi saw - just cutting a small rectangle in lower corner for the bar to stick through. |

"... just cutting a small rectangle in lower corner for the bar to stick through..."
As easy as it is to remove/replace the bar/chain, you could just store 'em in a smaller box, with the bar off, & stored in the box diagonally. I suppose you could test fit a saw into a cardboard box, to determine the minimum size the box could be. OR, just do some accurate measuring. I may try that, next time I think about it. I noticed today how much junk gets stuck inside, just from one short cutting session. So, while I had the compressor cranked up, I blew the gunk out of ALL our saws, including the pole saw. Only took a few minutes do it & get 'em all back together. Even the 80v didn't take very long, even with having to use a scrench. That set-up is not near as much trouble as I thought it would be. But, the tool-free system is quicker & really convenient. Just went out to the storage shed & did some measuring. For the saw body only, the box would have to be a min of 17" long, 10" wide, & 10" tall, for the 40v Kobalt & the WEN. Didn't measure the total length of either bar. Hey, it's dark outside & there is no light in the storage shed. I'll do some more accurate measuring tomorrow. The Dewalt body will require a min of 14" long, 9" wide & 10" tall. Again, didn't measure the total bar length. We have quite a few cardboard boxes. I'll do some trial fitting & measuring tomorrow. Hey, since the saws weight less than 10 lbs, the box doesn't have to be super heavy duty. Seems that most of my small metal tool boxes ended up weighing more than I wanted to carry very far, with just one hand. Guessing 40-50 lbs, OR ? Last edited by ponyakr; 11-25-2020 at 09:50 PM. |

Good points on all that.
The trouble area on that $15 Husky Box is going to be the height - its going to be close from their interior dimensions. I'm hoping the lid has some extra clearance room that was accounted for. Don't want to fork out for the $22 Dewalt Box on all of them. They have an Orange 19" Box for $10 - but the only saw that might fit in it will be my old Remington 8" Pole Saw body. |

Posted the measurements I took, BEFORE I read this. Our 3 smaller saws will need a 10" tall box. |

Same here - 10" minimum height
and that's with the chain brakes pushed down. On the Kobalt , the 19" Length is going to be a factor , plus the 10" height. If it can squeeze into a $15 Box too - all the better ! When they call them a 22" Toolbox - its the largest bulge on the Exterior. The very bottom of the interior might not even be 19" The guy with the 14" Ryobi was even able to get his battery and charger inside the box with the saw - with the lid shut. He used a scabbard on the bar and let the bar poke out like the $40 Chainsaw Boxes that Husqvarna makes. Quote:

Gotta have a Lid , be 10" interior Height, and Cheap
Slim pickings I've got a real nice looking 22" Craftsman Toolbox (black-red) that would match the Craftsman saw real purty, and probably fit too. They don't make them like this one anymore. I keep all my drills, drill bits and drill attachment paraphernalia in it. If the Husky is made well enough to hold/carry that stuff - i might switch them out. |
