Distilled White Vinegar soaking will remove corrosion/oxidation/rust from about anything.
Probably any type of vinegar - i just use the white - and its cheap.

Nuts bolts driveshafts suspension parts brake parts clips brackets etc etc
keep watchful eyes on aluminum parts and practice some first.

Only limited by the size of your tubs and amount of vinegar you have.
And the limits of your imagination

Never tried it that way. The solution i use ONLY dissolves rust, will not hurt or remove paint of any kind.

The coating you removed from the center link is the manganese phosphate originally put on it. Gives it that gun metal blue color. It'll either have to be replated or you can get paint mixed up to look like it.

Looks like an Evaporust or Ultra One type water based product. Made a similar solution with EDTA to do the same process. Nifty stuff and environmentally safe. Used it on the engine block for my 72 T/A. Worked well.

Can you say Chelation? I knew you could. That's quite the distribution and recovery system you have there Tom.

Is there anyway you would reveal what solution you use? Looks like the item needing cleaned up does not have to be submerged totally in the solution. Is that correct? Very nice results, would be great on cars that are not very rusty!

The part that needs to be treated has to be completely submerged or constantly kept wet with the product. As takid455 said, ultraone works really good or the evaporust. Evaporust can be bought at a local part store, ultraone has to be ordered.

Thanks!! I have a 72 Formula 455 HO that that was a 2 owner car prior to me purchasing it. With the castor oil royal purple degreaser the underside of the floors come very clean to the point that they do not need to be painted. The diff and axels, along with springs and upper and lower control arms have a light coating of surface rust I would like to remove. I also would rather not disassemble the rear end to clean them up. Also using a wire wheel is not only a pain, but impossible to reach everything needed to do a complete job. I have used evapo rust before, will just have to come up with a way to keep the underside of the car wet. Thanks for the reply!!

The site to go to is www.saferustremoer.com and you will see how this product works. It is recommended that you use a small heater to keep the solution warm, like one for an aquarium. This will speed up the work time. best part when you are finnished with a project put Ultra One back in container and can be used again at a later time.

If you go to my old 72 TA thread you can see where I set up a kiddie pool with an aquarium heater and a sump pump attached to a garden hose sprayer to do the underside of my car. The hotter the fluid, the better the results. It is an amazing product.

Ultra one (Dwight) is literally around the block from me. Got to see Miss Belvedere there a few years ago.

No labels on the vats in the building as we always tried to figure out the ingredients. You can make a solution that is about half the cost with a little research and moderate chemistry knowledge as I did. I had fun mixing stuff in the labs at school. There is enough info on this page to get started . If you failed chemistry, just buy it from one of the above companies.

One of the few instances one can legally have a kilo of white powder delivered to your house. ..party time!!!whoooo

Per Tom's request, I will not speak any further on this subject

I found the link to the contraption I set up to derust the underside of my car back in 2006. Way less advanced than what is being used on the RAIV (I am very jealous), but it worked on the small spots that needed attention.

There photos on pages 13 and 14 of my thread.
