Stan
That was just on the fantasy dyno

If the air foil (push rod) in the middle of the intake port works out, then how much help does the lift, push rod, rock arm dynamic need on a short deck block?

Stan

BTY, since my junk build is go'n no where do to funds, mess'n with an old set of heads to see what dimple's(golf ball type) in the ports just to see how it affects fluid suspension.
Wet dry vac and a spray bottle. Real red neck operation it is lol.
I may be wrong about the wing in the port, but until I prove that it's a hindrance and not a benefit, I cannot just say it will not work. I know from all the research that I have done about air flow and wet flow, that the engine is not going to know if it is there or not. So it is my job as an engine builder/cylinder head designer to make it work. I think that I mentioned it before that I have first hand info of a factory RA5 engine that made close to 1,000 HP with old technology. All I can tell you about it because it's not my place to divulge the details is that it is well under 500 cubes and is making 2 HP per cube with a factory head. This is with 80's technology!!!! Pro Stocks in the early 80's were only making 2 HP per cube back then.

Chris, I think that with your ability and the team of guy's around you that we will see 2.3 HP per cube. Don't let that little airfoil scare you, I have faith!!!! All you need is a guy willing to step up to the plate and spend what it takes to do it.

I know, I know Tom I need to get my engine done. Hopefully next week the short block will be together. I have been working on it.

... well from a reverse-engineering perspective, it appears that's what led to the Tunnel Port/RAV layout because the pushrods are virtually straight up and down, so less deck height wouldn't be a problem, and during the era' this layout was developed the focus was short deck, small c.i. TransAm road racing, so it's easy to see what the factories were after then, large csa ports with straight valvetrains ...

Call KRE they are the only ones that I know that have done it with Picketts 428 and track results back it up with 8.0"s in quarter mile.

So I am not asking this to offend anyone.I just want to see what others have done or might think it takes. I think to make 2.0 HP per cube takes way more than the average guy is willing to spend or to make the effort to achieve. I have been fortunate enough to have seen some of what it takes to make 2.8-2.9 HP per cube in pro stock, and let me tell you. I do not have the funds or time to dedicate to such an endeavor. It gets way more involved at this level than I think most realize. Let's see what everyone's thoughts are. Let's use a 500 cubic inch limit with our current deck height of 10.240" and the cylinder heads that we have available right now. There are no limitations except the two I just mentioned. If the engine is capable of making a minimum of 2.3 HP per cube. Then this theoretical engine will make 1150+ HP. Let's not turn this into a cylinder head pissing match. I don't care what heads are used to achieve this goal. I just want to get people together to brain storm. We have some really smart guy's here and I think this will be of interest to everyone from the amateur racer all the way up to the professional level engine builder

He qualified with a 8.31 at 163.45 weighing around 2780lbs. Which shows 950hp 2.2hp/ci

unlike you.....Who can go "dumb" with any set of facts.

There is not enough light that can be shown that would be bright enough for you to see it.

No, unlike you, when you can't sway anyone with your 'facts' you deflect or resort to childish antics.

Yes , but sad to say my data shows that dyno to be a bit on the happy side (at that point in time)!

My 521 on different pump made 2.17X

I'm hoping to be somewhere close to 2 HP per cube @9000 rpm on the 400 I'm building for my sons car,but it's going to have a factory block and factory iron heads with a 'special' port job. Don't want to make it too easy with all this fancy aftermarket stuff!

9,000 RPM with a cast iron head?

Why not? HO was doing around that rpm in the 70's! Today's parts and porting techniques applied to old iron 2 per seems a doable goal..

Sounds like a plan to me Taff!

Or as close to 9000 as we can get. Obviously the heads will be seriously modified,I'm going to mill out the head port divider wall right back to the head bolt boss's to make one large 'siamesed' port that will tune at up around 10,000 rpm, then they will have a max port job, and then the intake manifold will have the same treatment. (similar to what I've done on my turbo combo, which works pretty good as far as fuel distribution goes). Compression will be up around 16-1 with all titanium parts up top and a super light rotating assembly. No it won't be on pump fuel, and yes it is going to be a challenge!

Sure, you can shift it that high, but it probably stop making power under 7,000.
