I agree I hate cowl hoods on a Pontiac BUT these cars. I don't think any hood scoop will as good. You should have bought that 2-1/2" cowl the guy had for sale for $50 at Norwalk. I thought about it but got a bit distracted. I have a 4-1/2" cowl hood on mine.

Isn't that the way it works. I thought I was all set with the GTO scooped hood. I checked out VFN's site. They have a Grand Prix hinged fiberglass hood. And offer a number of choices for hood scoops at an added cost.

Cleaned up the hood hinges. Being that I'm going to put a glass hood on her now. I took the springs off the hinges. They came off with pry bar without any problems. Probably a little more tricky putting the springs back on.

I bought my hood from a small company NE of Cleveland. It was cheaper than VFN but I know it's heavier since a friend has the VFN one. I know I have the name in my toolbox if you want it.

Finally able to log in here. I found the form with the company I picked up my hood at. The place is called WS Racing Fiberglass but I did a search and couldn't find anything. Maybe they are no longer in business?

I spent some time today looking up WS Racing Fiberglass. The website that I tried - http:/www.wsracingfiberglass.com/ is not up and the number 440-998-6341 has been disconnected. From what I gathered the owner of the operation had passed and his son took over. Change of owner and bad economy may have deep sixed the company.

a couple months ago on E-bay there was a huge scoop from an old Ford truck. It was in the shape of the SD scoop but maybe a 1/3 bigger.
OR What about a custom clear oversize SD scoop out of plexiglass? Mounted with the opening in the back to counter balance the look of the rear glass. Maybe use plexi as the base of the scoop also. I think would look killer with the black paint. Get to see a little of whats under the hood ala Corvette. |

I just picked up my turbo 400 tranny yesterday. Now I'll be able to fit a crossmember and frame mounts to the aero coupe frame.

Moving the aero coupe into the lift bay so I can trial fit the tranny. Gave her a quick bath before putting her back in the garage.

Here's the 400 tranny attached to the motor. Looks like I will have enough room so I shouldn't have to mess with the floor pan . That lip where the floor pan and firewall meet could be trimmed a little for easier access to the bellhousing bolts. Next step will be to see what crossmember works best. I have the original g-body,a 70's firebird, and an a-body to choose from.

Looks like I'm going with the original g-body crossmember. As it turns out the crossmember perch for the tranny mount fits pretty good. With the crossmember sitting on the factory frame mounts. I'll need to carve out the driver side of the crossmember to clear for the dual exhaust. The other two crossmembers were not even close. The left and right side floors in the g-body cars are not the same. The catyltic converter sits under the front passenger seat. And that side does not drop down as far as the driver side. There's about an 1 1/2 to 2 inches difference. Time to scrape the grease off the crossmember and start cutting and welding.

I was able to spend some time on the crossmember. I cut out the section for the exhaust. Then welded in 1/8th inch steel. I also welded one more piece to the top section for a little more strength. After welding ,I went to test fit the crossmember. And found that I had to reshape the left side of the crossmember as it had distorted from the previous welding. I also added some weld to the tranny perch. I welded up the single bolt hole for the tranny mount, then drilled it for the two bolt mount. Now the crossmember is ready to be painted.

Looking good Mike, keep it up, you'll be done before you know it, came home off the road today, 30 degrees and snowing, this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Stan, good weather is knocking on the door. Give it another week. Getting ready to drop the tranny back out, so I can put the torque converter in. Still waiting on my other tranny for the 65. Been a month so far. I need to get out on the track !

I plan on putting a driveshaft safety loop on the car. I'm seeing a place that the g-body had a small support brace attached. I'd like to use this as a mounting place for the safety loop. I attached a couple photos.
