Thanks Leigh! This is a quote from Leigh that he posted over on pro-touring.com about some folks who commented on his Tri-y's.....so figured I'd add it here.

"I'll dig them out of hiding (in the trunk of the 71) and hang one again and snap a lower pic...they do indeed sit above the pan, which impressed the owner of the red 74 T/A you can see parked out the front of my house in the above pic. The white truck in the drive belongs to my friend who helped with the engine build.
They both really liked the quality of these headers. "

Easy is relative but mine installed easy. That being said, the last headers I worked with were on a 428CJ big block Mercury Cyclone with power steering. Those were hard....very hard to install.

Anyway, the trick to the Tri-Y headers on my car was to hang the header on the two outside bolts just barely threaded in so the gasket is in place. This will allow you to move the header in and out. I then slid the number 5 bolt through the flange and gasket and used it to snug the header down and position it. I then was able to put the rest of the bolts in very easily. Most with a socket and extension from below. Same deal with the other side. I don't think you will get any D-Port header in by snugging the header to the block then trying to get the bolt behind the center ports in. That bolt needs to be angled in to the flange, allowed to move and the first bolt to get snugged.

I had no need to make a custom wrench, grind anything or use any funky bolts. I did not need to jack up the motor. I did have to remove the starter and oil filter housing but I would expect to have to remove both with any Pontiac header. As Ron quoted me before. I don't expect any header to leap out of the box and onto the car. but these headers are about the closest I have found to doing exactly that.

Ron has made some changes since my headers were built. None of them look like they would make installation more difficult so I would think your experience will be much the same.

I didn't get to go to Ca the next day like I posted. I didn't check the weather & cant really take apart a building in the rain. So I went two days later & got back on the 4th. I have been real busy around the shop the last few days.

I took the 5th to set up the new stuff & yesterday I went through all the motions with everything in its place. Everything is working just as I had planed it would & the speed & savings are more that noticeable. Today I got to work on some headers stuff. So I hope to be pumping out a few sets a week like I recently posted now that all the traveling & other setup is done. I'll resume shipments on headers tomorrow or on Mon if I dont make it in time.

Judging by the improvements in the process & the overall savings it looks like a good chance I'll have everyone done around 30 or so days.

I was able to throw a piece of SS on the bender today & after a few adjustments I got a real nice bend. Looking at it makes it real tempting to do nothing but SS from now on because of how puuuurty it is lol. I cant wait to get one of those sets done

I have a dyno motor is in the works also. After the 30 or so days I'll have time to do some track testing with a few of the locals & having a little fun again. I may get my wife to post at times since I dont have the time to do the internet stuff at this time.

I'll have some pics after this weekend

The access to the bolts? Im a Pontiac guy, so of course that was a very important thing on my list. I posted pics back at some point & cant remember which thread of the new design D-port flanges. They offer WAY more hand room than any other header out there. The flange & the placement of the tubes make it so there's No funky homemade wrenches or twisting you hand in so strange position to get to the bolt. Unless the frame or body gets in your way.
The 64-67' A-body headers have less room than all the others but are still a far cry from a bolt on a Hooker & I added a keyway slot to help out.

Hi guys, Ron's been working today & told me not to bother him. I found a few pics on his computer from the other day of one of the loads of tubing he got. The ones in the box are 2" SS with the first SS bend he did laying on top. To the right center is the 1 3/4" mild steal. To the far right is the 1 3/4" SS. He has the 3" SS & mild steel already inside along with the other load of 2".

He said he has pics of the mild steel & SS flanges on the computer but I cant find them. I know he took pics once they got here. I think he probably deleted them by accident. There were three heavy boxes. One of round ports & one with D ports mild steel. Then one other box with a mixture of SS round, D-port & RA V flanges.

He almost had a set of headers shipped today but I was caught in traffic getting back from getting him a better phone. So he will ship them on Mon

He spent a lot of time in the past week reorganizing the shop with all the stuff he got. I think he did a great job of not only making a lot more room but also he says it far easier to work this way. He only has one other thing to move around & that's the phase converter. After he gets more wire for it he can move it out of the way & he will have even more room. It has been working where it is but he didn't have enough of that expensive wire. So it ended up where ever the wire ran out.

GTOWAGON......I'm not familiar with your order...have you tried to contact Ron? I know he has been behind through trying to put away huge orders of tubing in his attic......

rcrta..........the stainless headers are coming, but the first set has yet to be made. If thats what you want then I cant give you a date yet other than to say soon.....or a price. He has yet to determine total cost of materials.....working on it now.

Heres a couple of pics of the Tri-Ys fitted to my 455 in my 71 Firebird. They sit up nicely underneath.
Plenty of room, but you do have to lift the engine to get them in...at least I fitted them while the engine was still up in the air on my crane as I was fitting the engine/gearbox to the car.

What is the expected time to receive a set of headers. it was stated that the old orders were cought up. Would love to get a set kinda scared after hearing horror stories of the standard 4 tube's rubbing dragging and generally not fitting for crap.

scoob, Not sure where you thought it was stated old orders are caught up. I for one still haven't got mine. Still waiting and hoping since Feb 2005. I keep hearing I am getting mine soon. There is a sponsor program, where if you order a set, it helps get yours and one of the old orders done quicker.

ramair3 is right....old orders are not all caught up. Hopefully by end of summer. ramair3's= is next in line though and should hopefully be done by the end of this week. That said...........anyone who wants to place a new order this is how to do it.

Contact Ron, either directly or through me. Send him a $50 deposit, and he will give you a completion date. Most of the time that is about 2 weeks. If they are NOT done by that date he refunds the deposit (hasnt happened yet). If they are done you pay for the balance and get your headers.

Hi, yes they are ceramic coated....a local guy where I live (Sydney, Australia) did them...does nice work.
When I picked them up he remarked that they were heavily built...said he didn't see headers made like this often at all.
