I ordered mine with the option of having them coated. How much more would it cost me to get them in stainless instead? Thanks, Dave

I will add that in the past due to lack of funds. Ron had to send out sets that were un-coated & credit them back at the end AFTER all are done.
He doesn't have to do that anymore because there's not the lack of funds anymore. So all are going out coated as planned. The only draw back is that we have to have a certain quantity each time I go there. So there may be a bunch sent out at a time because of the group coming back from the coater & at times may be few or none shown to be sent. That's due to getting the group ready for the coater. Ron says he has much of the cost figured out so far for the SS down to the inch. He has the bending & any forming worked out. He has been doing this in between the other stuff so far. All he has to do now is the cost on the welding portions. Like extra gas consumption from purging. Setting up the purging & other necessary welding materials. Also if he needs someone to weld the flange areas or not. His Tig may not go that thick on the flanges but is way overkill for the rest of the job. He may just buy another Tig, go another route or just get someone that brings there own equipment. He thinks next week when the SS time gets back in rotation he will know all that & have a price worked up. He has a great price on all the materials now & is making sure that he makes the fairest price possible for everyone. He says he thinks its going to be somewhere around the same cost as a coated set of mild steel headers. Other SS headers it seams to be the norm to use the 5/16" SS flanges or some may even cut a corner to use the mild steel flange with the rest SS. We have 3/8" SS flanges here ready to go for both round port & RAV. The D port flanges are coming. The pic that LeighP posted shows the older style header flange. Ron had a different design that he posted sometime back. It allows for more hand room than any other header at those trouble bolts. Of course it took a Pontiac guy to figure out what would be the most convenient.

rcrta
The price for the mild steel set is $450 & the coating is $225 = 675. So he is hoping that it will be somewhere near that. He thinks he will have a max at $750 & is hoping to make it be below $750 but by how much? He wont know until next week. He would love to work on the SS right now but like he posted he is only making a few days available a week towards the SS or new headers. His main goal is all the old orders. The more he uses the SS the more he likes it.

Hi Deanna
![]() Was gonna answer these guys the best I could when I saw the questions, but you are in a better position to answer than I am! lol rcrta.......best contact method might be to PM her, in case she isnt checking back to the thread regularly. If you dont hear back in a day or so let me know and I'll see if I can contact Ron. I dont know the cost of the coating off the top of my head. EVERYONE PLEASE KEEP IN MIND...THE DAYS OF THE 14G HEADERS LIKE LEIGH HAS AND ALL PAST ORDERS HAS ARE OVER. RON HAS MOVED TO 16G IN BOTH MILD STEEL AND STAINLESS. REMEMBER, THATS THE THICKEST ANYONE ELSE USES.....SO ITS STILL A HEAVY DUTY, SOLID HEADER. JUST WANT THERE TO BE ZERO CONFUSION. THIS REALLY IS THE BEST HEADER FOR A PONTIAC THERE IS. OK, I'M BIASED SINCE I BOUGHT THEM.....LOL. Also keep in mind that while coated mild steel and stainless steel may end up close in price, there are tradeoffs. Stainless steel doesnt need the coating to prevent rust and may look kinda cool, but coated mild steel headers are going to keep the temp down under the hood. oooops! Never mind..............she saw...........lol |

I would rather have had the 16 gauge headers actually. I mean, I know these will last alot longer and probably withstand a bash against the ground (which will never happen) but they are pretty heavy. I would rather have lighter as well.

gearbanger......you might find a buyer here for what you have into them, or even a local buyer on craigslist. Then you could order a new set...lol. From order to delivery now is about 2 weeks. I wish it had been that way for all you guys before, and I am waiting impatiently for every old order that gets completed.

So headers for first gen firebirds are available now? I need a set of round ports 2" or 2 1/4 primaries. Stainless!

While waiting on my headers, I have occasionally searched for stainless headers for Pontiacs. I came across some for the first gen Firebirds recently by Stainless Works. Check the link below.

Yes Aron, he has had the pattern 67'-69' birds for a while now. I think since the middle of last year.
Skip, here's what I know of. Ron has both 1 3/4" & 2" versions for: 1st gen birds, 2nd gen birds, 68'-72' A-body The 64'-67' A-body's are only in 1 3/4" so far. He has a car coming ( really just a few small patches of metal held together by large areas of rust LOL) that he will be using the frame as a test frame. He will use that to work on the 2" later for the 64'-67'. It hasn't been requested nearly as much as all the others. So everything else come first. Ron can do SS in either one of those choices D, O, & V's. But like I mentioned above he's about a week away from hopefully getting the final cost on the SS builds. He has the tooling in the works for the 2 1/8" & 2 1/4" tubing. He may already have one of those sets of tooling because he has those sizes of tubing here? The 2 1/4" tubing is used for the secondaries on patterns already. The 2 1/8" I didn't get to ask him what that's for but I think its for primaries on something. I'm sure the 2 1/4" can be used for the primaries too but I haven't heard him even mention that. I'm not ruling it out because he doesn't talk much about anything other than the 2" or the 1 3/4" & I probably missed it. As Don posted & the way Ron broke it down. The difference in material between the 14g & 16g is about one third for wall thickness. The flanges would be the same of course. Just the tube sections of the headers would be maybe a third lighter. He used a regular house scale & it came out to a difference of 7.6 pounds for the 64'-67' set. Or 3.8 pounds per header.
